Gary Coleman?

These CP fans are chanting “Gary Coleman!,” a familiar chant made famous in Santa Barbara by Gaucho fans ticked at point guard Josh Jenkins. Funny thing is, though, they’re chanting it but they’re not looking at Jenkins. It’s as if they didn’t know what the chant means. It’s funny though, and Jenkins is really killing them tonight.

Jenkins’ night?

A third 3-pointer with a Mustang right in his grill. Just after Cal Poly had obtained its first lead of the night. But now it’s CSUN back up, 30-28. Oh wow another three from Jenkins. 33-28.

He’s alright

Chaz Thomas seems to have recovered from his early injury. He just drilled a 3-pointer from about 25 feet away from the basket. It’s a close defensive battle here at Mott Gym. CSUN’s still up, 25-23, with 3:49 to play. The Matadors are shooting 52 percent from the field.

Jenkins is being the man early on

Josh Jenkins has two early 3-pointers and just assisted Kenny Daniels on an alley-opp that just made CSUN’s lead 23-18 with 6:35 to go in the first half. Good to see that, if you’re a CSUN fan. Jenkins seemed winded so he took a seat for now.

Game not for TV

So far this game isn’t looking too pretty. The teams are shooting a combined 27 percent from the field. CSUN leads Cal Poly 9-7 at the 11:50 mark.

Poly’s second leading scorer seems hurt

Chaz Thomas, who averages 12.4 points per game (second only behind Lorenzo Keeler’s 12.6 ppg) seems to have hurt himself. He was trotting gingerly after taking a jump shot and has now been subbed out by freshman guard Justin Brown.

Mels out with two fouls

CSUN’s Rodrigue Mels needs to learn to control his fouls. Barely three minutes have gone by and the guard already picked up two fouls. This probably means he’ll sit out the rest of the half. Meanwhile, the Matadors are up 4-1. Make that 7-1. Mark Hill just hit a 3-pointer. Cal Poly is yet to hit a shot. They’re 0-of-6 at the 15:57 first-half mark.

Game time: Mels starting in place of Haynes

Rodrigue Mels has earned a start, in place of Rob Haynes, who missed his first game after having played in all 107 of his career. The rest of the starters for CSUN are: Vincent Cordell, Josh Jenkins, Kenny Daniel and Tremaine Townsend. Cal Poly’s going with Lorenzo Keeler, Titus Shelton, Chaz Thomas, Wes Dipprey and Shawn Lewis. Game time.

Coaches vs. Cancer game

Searching to raise cancer awareness in the San Luis Obispo community, the Cal Poly coaches will be wearing sneakers with their suits tonight against the Matadors. Good cause.
