Matadors crush 49ers in showdown for “best in the Big West” Alonso Tacanga / Sports Editor The two coaches spotted each other and walked to midcourt on Saturday afternoon prior to the tip-off of the game that would undo a tie for first place between their teams in the Big West Conference. The 49ers’ Dan Monson approached CSUN’s Bobby Braswell’s with a smile. Braswell held out his hand. “I’m not sure if I want to shake your hand,” Monson said… Read more
Tresvant was not at the Matadome and did not receive his senior portrait. There wasn’t even a mention of his name during the ceremony. On the other hand, Josh Jenkins, Tremaine Townsend, Rob Haynes and Rodrigue Mels were all honored.
The Matadors blew out the 49ers, 95-74, and have grabbed sole possession of first place in the Big West Conference. The Senior Day celebration has started. Full game recap to come.
Long Beach State cut CSUN’s 28-point lead to 18 and even though that’s still a huge lead, some fans here started to feel a little heated, perhaps feeling the secure Northridge win was about to become a fight against the clock. Well, CSUN’S now up 87-68 with 3:16 to go. Can they hold a 20-point lead for 180 seconds? Pretty likely.
The man can fly sometimes. Galick went up for an offensive rebound and found the ball in a perfect bounce for … a two-handed backwards putback dunk. In a Jordan-esque showing, he stuck out his tongue seconds later. CSUN’s up 79-53 with 8:56 to go. Everything has gone the Matadors’ way in this second half.
The Matadors look NOTHING like they looked just four days ago when they barely escaped with a 62-57 win against eighth-place UCSB. CSUN’s leading 70-47 with 13:13 to go. That’s not a typo. The Matadors are indeed leading by 23. Long Beach State does not look like it’s tied for No. 1 in the Big West. That’s got a lot to do with what CSUN’s doing, obviously.
CSUN’s still dominating at the Matadome and leads LBSU 60-45 with 15:31 to go. Tremaine Townsend has nine of his 11 points in the period and Kenny Daniels is heading to the line to add to his 12. First one’s a brick. Second one goes in. CSUN up 61-45.
Kenny Daniels is having a fine game for CSUN, scoring 12 points in a variety of ways. However, he’s a bit too eager with wanting too contribute. Rodrigue Mels went ahead on a fastbreak and was fouled as he put up a layup that was about to drop in … right before Daniels came in and slammed it down … nullifying the points for goaltending. Still, CSUN’s in good shape at halftime, leading 49-36. Rob Haynes finished the half with… Read more
