Beep Beep!: Matadors blow by Roadrunners

Alonso Tacanga Sports Editor The first time the Matadors lost to the Roadrunners this season, it was clearly evident they were not the No. 1 team everyone thought they were at the time. “I remember a bad taste I had in my mouth about how we played that game,” CSUN Head Coach Bobby Braswell said about the Nov. 21 game in Bakersfield that CSUN lost 67-65. “It shouldn’t even have been as close as it was.” That was only the… Read more

Game over, CSUN wins easily

There wasn’t much to update on, other than the fact that the Matadors got an easy one against the Roadrunners, 79-62. They’ve now won four straight games. Full recap to come.

Time to finish it

CSUN leads 70-54 with four minutes to go and Josh Jenkins has come in the game to help finish the Roadrunners. Why are there so many timeouts? The Matadors are well on their way to their fourth straight win.

Haynes hitting some

Rob Haynes is back. The guard just hit three 3-pointers in a row and has extended the CSUN lead to 63-42 with 8:29 to go. White-flag-waving time for Bako.

No challenges yet

The game has turned tedious in the sense that the lead has remained unchanged. It’s a 14-point one, 53-39, with 11:17 to go. Looks like Bakersfield won’t be road-running at Northridge tonight. Now Josh Jenkins commits an intentional foul, which gives CSUB two free throws and possession.

Braswell can’t relax

Bobby Braswell was upset at Therin Taylor over something he did wrong defensively and yelled at him at the same time that Vincent Cordell completed a layup and got fouled. Nice timing. CSUN leads 47-31 with 15:54 to play.

Second half under way

Bryan Emanuel of Bakersfield just took a screen from Willie Galick that made him sound as if he’d just been stabbed in the heart. I guess Galick checked him. By the way, have you met Willie Galick? CSUN’s still ahead comfortably, 39-26, in the second half.

Halftime

At halftime, the Matadors lead Bakersfield 38-24. Tremaine Townsend’s leading all scorers with 14 points while the second-leading scorer – surprisingly – is seldom-used guard Therin Taylor, who has nine. The Roadrunners had spread the wealth offensively, but shot just 28 percent from the field. The crowd has increased considerably now.

Vincent Cordell is doing something wrong

I can’t quite figure out what it is, but I think Bobby Braswell wants him to post up in the paint harder. Braswell keeps yelling at him to “face up” as the Matadors swing the ball and spread around the wings while Cordell’s the designed center. Here comes the play again. Cordell’s looking back at Braswell confused. He got the ball wide open at the three-point line, but his shot rattled around the rim and came out. Braswell was disappointed… Read more
