Turning point?

Rodrigue Mels just had a reverse dunk that had the entire Matadome and the CSUN bench on its feet. A moment after, he missed a three-pointer that for sure would have brought the house down. CSUN’s trailing 23-16 with 4:15 to go. The Matadors have another look in their eyes. Let’s see if they can turn this into a game at least. And-one for UCSB …

Townsend is back

Tremaine Townsend had to come out of the game because he picked up two fouls in two minutes, but he’s back, given how far behind his Matadors are falling. CSUN’s down 21-11 with 7:55 to play as Matthew Wallace throws it away. Is that smoke coming out of Bobby Braswell’s ears?

A little help?

CSUN’s in need of some help. If it wasn’t for a Rob Haynes’ three-pointer (no surprise here) the Matadors would only have four points at the 11:17 mark. Mark Hill is trying to take it strong to the hoop but his attempts have been defended well and even blocked. Josh Jenkins was talking to him in the middle of  a timeout, I imagine trying to fire him up. UCSB is up 21-9. The Matadors look dead in the water.

First time out

CSUN wanted to rise the defensive intensity tonight, but it seems that’s led to the Matadors forgetting how to play offense. CSUN’s down 11-4. In their first four possessions, Northridge had three turnovers. Positive sign for the Matadors: Mark Hill received an inbound pass and, in less than five seconds, took it from coast to coast for a layup.

Starting lineups (Jenkins is here)

For CSUN: Rob Haynes, Mark Hill, Kenny Daniels, Tremaine Townsend and Willie Galick. For UCSB: Jaime Serna, D.J. Posley, Paul Roemer, Will Brew Jr. and Chris Devine. Bobby Braswell going with his version of the twin towers (Galick and Townsend). Game time. Jenkins is on the bench. He doesn’t look like he’s in too much pain, but what do I know? What I’m trying to say is he looks in good spirits although, of course, he isn’t in uniform.

Twenty minutes to tip-off

Matadors and Gauchos warming up. The CSUN band is here at the Matadome. That should help provide some much-needed home court advantage. The Matadors have lost two straight while UC Santa Barbara is on a four-game winning streak.

There is more to Greek life than one thinks

They are the members of the student body that are loud, show up to class late and drink entirely way too much. Why would anyone want be to a part of that? Contrary to popular belief, Greek life does have something to offer students and there is a new Web site with the tools to promote it.

Stop hiding behind religion to justify bigotry

On May 15, 2008 a historic decision was made in the California Supreme Court. It reversed a lower court decision and ruled same-sex couples have the same right to marry as heterosexual couples under the state constitution.
