Water … Polo! … CSUN’s No. 1

The Matadors water polo team (20-14, 4-1 Big West) closed out the regular season with a 17-6 win against Cal State San Bernardino (10-22, 2-10 WWPA) on Sunday and got the top seed in the conference. The accomplishment earned the Matadors a first round bye in next weekend’s Big West Championship.

Demoralizing homestand

The Cal State Northridge softball team (24-17, 4-8) was swept 3-0 by No. 22 Cal Poly over the weekend at Matador Diamond.

Road win does not equal success

The CSUN baseball team was, per se, ‘speechless’ after a frustrating conference loss to Long Beach State (17-18, 4-5 Big West) on Sunday. With the result, the Matadors were’ on the losing end of a three-game series for a third consecutive time.

Zelzah Speed limit increase raises question of pedestrian safety

The Los Angeles City Council’s Transportation Committee plans to increase the speed limit on four busy streets in the San Fernando Valley, including one near CSUN. This decision was not well received by local residents, activists and CSUN students who fear the measure would add to the recent wave of pedestrian injuries due to accidents.

Three More Months

It was a little more than 30 hours before his flight.

‘I’ve had fun,’ said CSUN kinesiology major Brenden Nakamine with a laugh that hinted to mischief in his activities. ‘For the most part it’s kind of been like a two-and a- half week spring break for me.’

The impending flight wasn’t taking him to another in the list of spring-breaklike excursions he’d taken in the past two weeks, rather it was taking him back to a place few choose to go; Afghanistan.

End of the regular-season line for Mr. All-American

All-American Eric Vance ended his regular-season career on a high note. The fourth-year player helped the Matadors to a 3-0 weep of UCSB Friday night. Vance, however, is hoping his career can be extended all the way to a national championship.

Students forgo partying to volunteer on Spring Break

This past spring break, while some packed the car and headed down to the beach to soak up some rays, students of CSUN’s service learning class choose a different destination’mdash;New Orleans to be exact.

CSUN’s LGBTA membership growing

Every Thursday night members of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Alliance (LGBTA) convene in the Thousand Oaks room above the Associated Students office. Two years ago the alliance had less than twenty active members, today their numbers have nearly doubled.
