Spotlight: One student out of 36,000

Mahdi Baharan, a transfer student from Iran, was living abroad when two planes crashed into the World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11. Baharan, 26, was born in Dezful, Iran during the time Iran was at war with Iraq. After his birth, his family moved to Tehran. While living in Iran, Baharan witnessed the tragedy of Sept. 11 from a foreign country that does not have the best ties with the United States. He speaks of that dark afternoon as… Read more

Pork barrel spending is clogging our educations pores

If you think school cuts in a tough economy are inevitable, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.  People need to educate themselves on the reality of the California budget, not just trust what Chancellor Reed or President Koester write in press releases. There’s a major problem which drains money from the budget every year.  It’s welfare.  Yes, welfare in California is a major problem.  We have a bunch of lazy, good for nothing welfare recipients, doing nothing but sitting on their… Read more

Associated Students will be offering a $20 public transportation subsidy for students, reducing the price of a monthly Metro bus pass to $16 a month. The subsidy program, which started in July, has already received positive feedback from student riders, and it is expected to continue, said Ken Etter, A.S. manager of support services. “We think the program is going to help a lot of people,” Etter said. Embrace the life we are forced to have

The current recession has done one consistent thing for everyone in California. It has made us angry. The program ran into an obstacle when Pacheco began talks with The University… Read more

But this is only temporary, said Jonathan Pascual, president of Northridge Longboarders. Northridge Longboarders was approved by the Associated Students (A.S.) senate as an official CSUN club July 7, 2009, but is now facing the age-old dilemma that people everywhere with boards on wheels face – no skateboarding allowed. CSUN Holding On

Loyola is trying desperately to get on the board, but the Matadors continue to carry play in the 2nd half.  Every time the Lions have position down in CSUN’s defensive end, defender Katie Fox does a great job of clogging up the lane or clearing the ball.  There is only five minutes left and CSUN still leads 2-0.
