“Peace” at the Getty Villa is sure to Shock and Delight!

The Getty Villa presents Peace, but not as one might expect. Culture Clash is a Chicano/ Latino sketch comedy troupe, which was founded in San Francisco in 1984.  This is probably one of the last theater companies one would expect to be performing a classic Greek play; or is it? Peace is a comedy by the Greek playwright Aristophanes that deals with mans greatest folly, war. In the tradition of Greek comedies, the play is vulgar, satirical and at times… Read more

“Fate” Opens to Enthralled Audiences

Fate of a Cockroach”, Tawfiq Al-Hakim’s dark satire directed by Ken Sawyer, opened this past weekend to what was, no doubt, a warm reception. The title of the play arouses many questions. What is a cockroach’s fate? Who cares? However, when the lights went down on the CSUN production, the audience started to see a new perspective. “Fate” confronts those things we see as trivial or unimportant by presenting the viewer with two scenarios. In the first, we see a… Read more

Although the plot is not unique, “9” is visually worth watching

The film “9” is the story of nine puppets given the soul of a scientist to help defeat the evil that ended our world as we know it. The film has the action of “Terminator,” but instead of robots there’s dolls.  The expressions they all give evoke the same sense as “Wall-E” in that they appear more human than the humans in the movie. This isn’t a movie that tries to pretend it has a deep profound story, because it… Read more

Avoid the Bruin attack

The CSUN women’s soccer team (4-5-0) plays host to the nation’s third-ranked team, UCLA, this Friday at Matador soccer field. Clearly, this will be a tough test for the Matadors. CSUN will try to keep momentum on its side after having won a hard-fought battle last weekend against Hawaii, 1-0.  Following a couple of disappointing losses on the road, the win against the Warriors was exactly what the team needed. “When you go away from home and you don’t have… Read more

In relationships, stepping outside your bubble can open up a world of possibilities

As you may already have noticed from the header next to the headline, today is not your typical Thursday. In fact, every Thursday from here on out will be focusing on the whole complicated world of relationships. I am aware that an Editor’s Note was published in last week’s edition stating that the Daily Sundial editorial staff will stand by the sex column, and that’s not to say we have neglected it. After countless conversations after the note was published,… Read more

It’s not going to fix itself. The problems we face as students can be dealt with if we speak up

Walking across campus on Tuesday, students were crowding around the sorority and fraternity tables. Diligent efforts to raise money and get students to join their organizations were in full swing while people laughed and conversed with a sense of joy. Something was missing. Concern.  To my dismay there wasn’t any concern about what is happening to our education and around the world. I mean do the students of CSUN really care? Some faculty members and students reacted with anger over… Read more

CSUN student copes with HIV diagnosis

He tested positive for HIV in 1992, was paroled in 2007 and as a result 41-year-old Michael Dilley has tried to help others combat addiction and prevent HIV. “Like four months after my diagnosis I was in a school talking about it,” said Dilley, a health education student. Since Dilley was paroled in December of 2007, he has been working with the Tarzana Treatment Center, the largest taxpayer supported treatment facility in Los Angeles. Dilley was reluctant to discuss his… Read more
