Turn a study session into a party

Study’ and ‘party’ are words that we do not normally use together, but the good news for us students is that there are new ways to avoid the stress of studying, and enjoy it instead. We are a few weeks away from winter break, and I am sure everyone is planning their holiday vacations. But before we go back home to our parents’ house, or plan to ride the slopes at Mammoth, we have to overcome the most dreadful week… Read more

The military needs some love

The U.S. military has faced some tough tasks and recently dealt with a very new version of tragedy and violence. The horrific shootings at Fort Hood last month are one reason the U.S. military is in the questionable state it’s in right now. Sure, the massacre at the Texas base was stunning. How could one not question the reasoning and motives behind this horrific tragedy? Many Americans already have qualms with the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Enlistment and recruitment… Read more

Letter to the Editor: Dec. 1, 2009

Dear Editor, The ‘Sex and the Nation State’ symposium, held Nov. 10, discussed issues concerning sex/gender and national security. The keynote speaker was an official from the Central Intelligence Agency, an indication that the methods and activities of government intelligence agencies not be questioned in this conference. But let us look at some of the activities of the CIA. It has overthrown elected leaders, for example in Iran in 1953, Guatemala in 1954, Brazil in 1964, and Chile in 1973…. Read more

Heading into Monday night’s home opener, Cal State Northridge (3-3) head coach Bobby Braswell was getting inconsistent play from his point guards. The first few games of the season Braswell started his senior Mark Hill, but due to his poor play, he was forced to go in another direction with Dathan Lyles, who hasn’t done much to contribute. After leaving the Matadome with an 81-74 victory over Cal State Bakersfield, Braswell could be making another switch at starting point guard…. Read more

Christina Handal isn’t a person that can be pigeonholed. The free-spirited, confident 21-year-old business management major said that concrete life plans scare her. “I don’t like to project out that far and try to plan my life that far in advance,” Handal said. “Even a month ahead, you think, this is where I’m going to be at, this is what I’m going to be doing – and your life takes you on some crazy turn of events that takes you… Read more
