A CSUN alumni is trying to start a student-run radio station. Madhanie Habte, 26, who graduated in the spring of 2009 with a degree in journalism, is concerned that the mediums offered on CSUN’s campus, like The Daily Sundial and KCSN, are controlled by the Journalism Department and are not depicting the true voice of the students. “Many other colleges have independently run Medias,” Habte said. “UCLA has Bruin Radio and Cal State Long Beach (CSLB) has KBeach, which is… Read more

Soot Bull Jeep authentic korean BBQ

For any avid Korean BBQ-er,   Soot Bull Jeep may just be the best place to go. Located in the heart of Korea Town, you will leave Soot Bull Jeep wanting more, in a good way. After driving a good 10 minutes off the 101 Vermont exit, I finally found W. 8th Street. On my left side I couldn’t miss the huge Soot Bull Jeep sign written in big black Korean letters and in English underneath. Simple, yet catchy. I… Read more

Will’s Words of Wisdom: Figure it out, boys and girls

President Obama addressed the nation in his first State of the Union speech  last Wednesday. I anticipated another moving speech by the current champion of oratory and public grace. I heard the man talk; now I’m waiting for results. It’s been more than a year since his inauguration and campaign for hope and change, but not much has changed. In fact the only thing that has changed is the heated rivalry between our nation’s two parties. Second only to “Jersey… Read more

Intimidation won’t improve the system, instead of coercion the administration should explore reasons why students aren’t graduating on time

Aaron Helmbrecht Contributing Reporter Given the draconian budget cuts of the Fall 2009 semester, I was not surprised to learn that CSUN administration officials have approved a measure that cuts financial aid to undergraduate students who have exceeded 150 units. But I was surprised to learn that the logic behind the measure was not budget related. It is an administration plan, which they hope will get students to graduate sooner. I understand the whole trial-by-fire reasoning behind the measure. But… Read more
