A.S. adds more funds to transit subsidy program

A.S. has increased the allotment for the student transit subsidy for this school year. Because of the overwhelming number of students using the subsidy last year, A.S. added $20,000 more to the $50,000 in monthly transit subsidies. “Last year it was an amazing hit and we ran out of funding,” said Kevin Mojaradi, marketing director for A.S. “We had over 2,500 students participate.” The regular price for a monthly Metro pass went up from $62 to $75 in July.  Some… Read more

A.S. President Conor Lansdale wants to put a kiosk in the Oviatt Library to serve as a connection between A.S. and the library and to expose students to issues and leadership. Although the project has not been formally funded, approved or implemented, senators provided Lansdale feedback during the A.S. meeting Tuesday. “This is one of the pet projects I took on to get A.S. more involved with different colleges and the library,” said Lansdale, who has been working on the… Read more

Newly appointed director of the DuBois Hamer Institute, Theresa White, along with her group of student ambassadors, presented the results of a research project Tuesday morning that touched on four specific initiatives. “The institute is programmed to empower students and to promote recruitment and retention,” said White, a Pan African studies professor. Women’s basketball: Lions’ fast start leave Matadors 0-7

The Matadors could not tame the Lions as the team was dealt its seventh straight loss of the season, falling 69-52 Wednesday night at the Matadome. CSUN (0-7) had difficulties finding the net, as plenty of opportunities would not fall its way and ultimately cost them the game against non-conference opponent Loyola Marymount University (4-3). The Lions jumped on a 17-2 run to begin the game with guard Courtney Collishaw, earning a three-point play as she was fouled on a… Read more

Despite recent skid, Kings remain contenders

Following hockey for the last 12 years or so, I have been able to compile some knowledge on the subject. Hockey is more fun than most people think. The game, which those on the other side of the northern border consider the national sport, is gaining a lot of popularity here in Southern California. We have seen this before though. Anybody remember someone by the name of Wayne Gretzky? The player known as The Great One, who accomplished so much… Read more

Post-fight rewards Johnson with no suspension

There was a fight in a sports game during the weekend. Surprisingly, it wasn’t a National Hockey League game, where violence is accepted as part of the culture. It happened in the National Football League, of all places. It’s pretty hilarious the sport doesn’t see that many fistfights despite its violent nature. The fight involved the Houston Texans’ four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson and Tennessee Titan cornerback Cortland Finnegan. Just released today by the NFL, both Johnson and… Read more

Alehouse offers unique dining experience for all

Ladyface Alehouse, located in Agoura Hills, gives its customers the feeling of stepping into a medieval pub. The restaurant, approximately 30 minutes from CSUN, features old-fashioned photos that decorate the dark walls, and welcomes people of all ages. Groups filled the crowded restaurant on the Saturday night I went, and the  patrons were mostly adult. My guest and I were greeted by a pleasant hostess, and waited approximately 10 minutes to be seated. The level of noise and amount of… Read more

Colleagues, friends and students were present in the Jack and Florence Ferman Library Presentation Room Monday evening for the retirement celebration of Susan Curzon, dean of the library for 18 years. As guest arrived, each guest took their turn to give Curzon a hug and say a few words wishing her well and congratulating her. Appetizers and… Read more

Getting sleep even with a snoring roommate

The snoring roommate scenario is  well-known within all dorm room communities. These roommates can cause severe irritation for the other party. Many students need eight hours of sleep in order to function well in class. A problem like this can come between two perfectly good roommates, so in an effort to help the situation, it’s important to talk to your roommate, and explain how this problem affects you. Helping your roommate to figure out why he/she snores is the first… Read more
