CSUN men’s basketball: Matadors beat UC Davis to snap three-game losing streak

Two days removed from the second half meltdown against Pacific, Cal State Northridge bounced back against UC Davis, as the Matadors were all smiles and laughs in their 87-81 victory over the Aggies at the Matadome Thursday night in Big West play. “I feel like running laps. I’m talking more today,” said a delighted Lenny Daniel, referring to his post-game interview after the Pacific loss, where he didn’t talk much due to frustration. Similar to the game against the Tigers,… Read more

CSUN men’s basketball: Matadors reveal frustration after second half meltdown

A three-game losing streak, where Cal State Northridge lost at the buzzer to Cal State Bakersfield, got crushed by 20 points at home against Santa Clara, and now a second half collapse to start Big West play has a few Matador seniors frustrated. An often laid-back Rashaun McLemore finally showed emotion and the normally talkative Lenny Daniel was lost for words after CSUN relinquished a second half 10-point lead en route to a 74-64 defeat against Pacific Tuesday night at… Read more

CSUN’s men’s basketball falters against Pacific in Big West opener

You live by the zone, you die by the zone. Behind the zone defense, Cal State Northridge built a second half double digit lead, but only to see it vanished with hot three-point shooting by Pacific, as the Matadors fell 74-64 at the Matadome Tuesday night in the Big West opener. The Tigers, who struggled early against the zone, capitalized on the wide open shots, making 11-of-20 three-pointers (55 percent). Tiger Jose Rivera had a career night with a game-high… Read more

CSUN men’s basketball falls apart in second half against Santa Clara, enter Big West play with losing streak

CSUN head coach Bobby Braswell sat calmly in his chair, while watching his team fall behind by as much as 26 points in the second half against Santa Clara on Wednesday night. Instead of expressing disgruntled emotions on the bench, which Braswell is known for doing at times, he opted to be patient with his young team and told them to keep competing. Braswell had plenty of reasons to chew his team out as the Matadors lost, 99-79, against the… Read more

“Somewhere” a benefit to Sofia Coppola’s burgeoning career

The simplistic subtly showcased in “Somewhere” solidifies Sofia Coppola as a bonafide filmmaker. Rarely does a director rebound so successfully and gracefully from a film like “Marie Antoinette.” Sofia, like her Academy Award winning father Francis Ford Coppola with his gangster films, has created charismatic characters, hopeless human beings who are saved by remarkable women. “Somewhere” feels like a European film- minimalistic, yet mesmerizing. With only four films thus far in her career, Coppola debuted with a spectacular adaptation of… Read more

DREAM Act gets passed by House

The House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday night that would provide a conditional path to citizenship for as many as 500,000 children of undocumented immigrants. While the House approved the Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors (DREAM) Act by a vote of 216-198, the fate of the DREAM Act remained uncertain as the Senate postponed a test vote on the measure.
