CSUN goes 2-1 against the Sacramento State Hornets

Northridge errors were the big problem a week ago, but CSUN came back this weekend committing only three errors against the Sacramento State Hornets. “We emphasized it this week in practice; we did some team defensive drills and did individual groundball drills. Our defense, for the most part, did a good job,” coach Matt Curtis said. The Matadors have moved past that and started raining in the hits after collecting 27 in back-to-back games against the Hornets. In a series… Read more

The Matador men’s volleyball team (6-16, 4-11 MPSF) split against the No. 2 BYU Cougars (14-7, 10-6 MPSF) by taking the first match in straight sets Friday, but lost the second match Saturday. In light of the recent disaster in Japan, much attention has been drawn to how many aspects of technology have aided in warning systems and connecting family to one another. What actions can CSUN take to affect change in local government and policies?

The country is buzzing with controversy: education budget cuts, expensive defense spending, possible government shutdown as a result of partisan disagreement and the stripping of workers’ collective bargaining rights in Wisconsin, to name a few. The most populous state, California has not been spared from these matters. Most notably, the state’s system of higher education continues to sustain budget cuts. Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposed budget calls for a $500 million cut to the CSU and UC systems as a best-case… Read more

The Top Five: Extreme sports, badness, breakfast and bugs

Flying deathtrap The FAA says you have a choice:  You can live in the past like your grandmother and fly in planes that feature emergency oxygen tanks in lavatories, though they could be used as bombs by extremists to take down airplanes. Or you can take the jaunty new, extreme sport approach to flying: No oxygen in lavatories, gambling that you may one day feel the rush of rapid decompression and frantically do the penguin down the aisle of a… Read more
