CSUN’s Big West Conference season is winding down to an end, and it’s hasn’t looked particularly pretty for the team after this past weekend. “We struggled on defense. We weren’t getting to our spots and containing the ball,” guard Janae Sharpe said. “On offense, we weren’t playing the way we knew how to play. We were missing easy layups in the beginning, so that kind of hurt us.” Looking to finish the season on a good note, the Matadors (16-12,… Read more

FULLERTON – With a nine-point deficit and only 1:45 remaining in the Matadors’ season, senior guard Vinnie McGhee shot a 3-pointer hoping it could possibly spark a comeback and maybe a fairy tale ending to his CSUN career. Instead, McGhee threw up an airball to add misery to an already tough 2011-12 season. “I’m a competitor and we were losing and I just wanted to make a three,” McGhee said. The senior continued competing, shooting another 3-pointer 40 seconds later,… Read more

Finding answers to the Lin phenomenon

As New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin drove down the lane for an amazing layup, one NBA commentator pointed out that it was “Steve Nash-esque” in style. Coming off the bench, Lin has become an overnight phenomenon, gracing back-to-back covers for Sports Illustrated — the only other NBA players to receive this honor are Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton and Dirk Nowitzki.
