Great idea! I’m going to try it. And yes, you know about what happened with Northridge Oasis, and that is hindering. Business owners that see us on the street are getting on board a little at a time. Yes, an uphill battle and two steps forward, then two steps back! But….thanks for the infor! We’ll keep moving uphill!

Maybe you could put together some information about how NoHo was successfully transformed and send it to the property owners. Owners may feel that after the failed Northridge Oasis project it just isn’t worth it. Also, you have an uphill battle in light of this economy with businesses large and small closing up shop.

Lum Ka Naad is one of the most supportive on the street and indeed cleans up. I totally agree with you on every issue you mentioned above. Don’t know what happened or why certain property owners feel entitled, but they do. Most businesses have helped and are extremely supportive. We’ve been stopped by the property owners. Once we finish placing signs, cleaning et. al., I wanted to have a ribbon cutting with art galleries, food trucks, etc. All with donated money. I tried calling empty businesses (they’ve been sitting for months). That’s how NoHo got started and it worked. They hung up on me twice, and certain property owners won’t allow me to move forward (not the business owners, the property owners), which stops growth all away around. Any suggestions???

So you want federal grants, not "funding"? What's the difference? You fail to understand my position: The federal government has no business nor does it have the constitutional authority to give you money for your project, no matter how noble and wonderful it may be. I am fully in support of you. You know, in the days before the federal government was everything to everybody, people used to take ownership and pride in their communities because they saw a need or had a vision and they did it themselves. They asked the local businesses and the people to help and they did; they did not ask for the federal government to fund it. And whatever happened to the store-keep sweeping up in front of his business and making the area inviting to his customers? What happened is that everyone now thinks it the government's job. It's sad really. If I owned the Lum-ka-naad restaurant, I'd be tending to the four-foot-square planters near my business myself. I wouldn't even need you to do it.

First, allow me to say this video was not rehearsed. Perhaps we should not have said Federal Funding. We will be applying for grants. Secondly, it truly amazes me how anyone could take something so positive and find a negative response to it. But, I would like to add that grants are given to many states to those who are making their communities a cleaner, safer more beautiful place to live.

Will someone please explain to me why taxpayers in Florida, Alaska, Hawaii, et al, should be paying for “volunteers” to clean up a three-block stretch of a street in the middle of Northridge.

Northridge Sparkle Campaign: Keep up the good work but please, leave the federal government out of it.
