The men’s soccer team attended the Associated Students (AS) meeting on Monday to accept a bouquet of roses for winning first place at the Big West Conference Tour.

The team finished with a 15-7-1 record, matching their Division 1 record.

In September, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) ranked the CSUN NCAA Men’s Soccer team third in the nation, which is the highest ranking in CSUN’s history.

The men’s soccer team placed roses at the foot of the Matador Statue.

The soccer team’s win took place over winter break.

CSUN decided to omit having President’s Day off in order to have a longer winter break; because of this.

David Crandall, AS general manager, suggested CSUN adopt President’s Day, as CSUN AS president’s day.

The purpose of the holiday would be to honor past AS presidents and the current AS president.

“I don’t think many people understand the amount of work [your] predecessors and you all have done,” said Crandall

“Many people on campus don’t understand the tremendous expectations [of a] university,” he said.

“I spoke to former AS president Sydni Powell about having an AS president’s day […] and invite [past presidents] and [the] current president to celebrate the hard work you all [have done],” Crandell said.

“I encourage the senate to adopt an AS president’s day, [called] CSUN AS president’s day,” he said.

Former AS president Sydni Powell graduated in 2013 with a Psychology degree. Powell is a Tablet Technologist at CSUN and is apart of the ipad initiative. Powell holds workshops to teach faculty to use the ipad.

The Board of Trustees said Governor Brown amended the rule that said if a CSU student permanently loses their Cal Grant, they won’t be able to go back to their CSU. Governor Brown said students with income below a certain level will still qualify for a Cal Grant.

The Board of Trustees is looking to add Course Match, an online program that allows CSU students to take online courses at other CSUs, to the CSUN Portal.

AS allocated $500 to the Associated Graduate Students of History for retrospect and unsigned contingencies, an emergency fund.

The National Association of Black Journalists-Black Journalists Association of Southern California was also awarded $1,200; $800 for Nelson Mandela, $200 for general advertisement and unsigned contingencies, and a $200 transfer from a mixer they held in the fall.

Students will be happy to learn that instead paying over a dollar for bottled water, there are two Flo Water Refill Stations located in Sierra and Juniper Hall, that they can use.

Wyatt Taubman, founder of Flo Water Refill Stations, said the purpose of Flow Water is to end plastic water bottle pollution and “provide better water than bottled water.”

Taubman said, “three more stations will be installed in the next week or two, and hopefully more thereafter.” Refills cost 35 cents.

Students looking to rent a car will be happy to know the Zipcar launch part will take place this Thursday at the Student Housing basketball courts. There will be a DJ and In-N-Out will be there serving free food.
