California State University of Northridge officials dedicated a courtyard in the center of campus to honor the legacy of former CSUN president Blenda J. Wilson on Friday January 31st 2014. Blenda was the individual that brought everything back together after the 1994 earthquake occurred. She wanted the campus to become more diverse and her thoughts, ideas and motives are still being presented today when looking at how the campus has evolved over the last few years. Blenda J. Wilson became the nation’s only African-American woman to head a university with an enrollment of more than 25,000 students. She also launched the Presidential Scholar’s program,”which pairs academically high-performing students with faculty mentors, and refine[s] the university’s strategic planning process” said CSUN Shine Today.
