CSUN women’s soccer (2-5-1) took their first home loss (2-0) of the season Friday night in a non-conference match against Arizona State’s (7-1-1) top notch offense.

The Matadors came out aggressive in the first half with 9 fouls out of the season high 16  they would end the game with. The Sun Devils followed closely with a game total of 14 fouls and both squads picked up a yellow card.

Despite CSUN’s tough presence throughout most of the first half, ASU broke the defense in the 43rd minute with a goal by Jessica Domenicelli.

Moving into the second half, the Matadors fought to equalize the score but the Sun Devil offense proved too strong with a huge shot in the 57th minute by Cali Farquharson from way outside the 18 yard box.

Despite a tough go, the Matadors ended the match with an impressive performance in the net by Cynthia Tafoya, who faced 13 shots for the night and earned three saves. Sun Devil goalkeeper Chandler Morris saved two, keeping the shutout and their win streak alive.

Watch the Matadors attempt to come back in another home game against Weber State Sunday, 1 p.m.
