The Matadors(13-4,4-1) traveled to San Louis Obispo for their match against the Cal Poly Mustangs (7-9, 2-4) on Friday that resulted in a second consecutive conference win for CSUN.

Leading the team was senior Casey Hinger with 16 kills, a .484 hitting percentage and a career-high of 22 digs. Juniors Cieana Stinson (.394) and Danetta Boykin (.207) also added to the win with 15 and 13 kills respectively.

Senior Sam Kaul hit a .626 on eight attacks and added 6 kills along with senior Natalie Allen.

Lauren Conati, freshman, achieved her first double-double of the season during her second game with 48 assists and 13 digs.

The first set of the game was one which the Matadors were forced to stay on their toes. Neither team was able to keep a solid lead. That was until back-to-back kills from Hinger and Boykin brought the score to 22-17. An attack from Boykin and two kills from Hinger closed out the set at 25-18 with the Matadors hitting a .400 collectively.

The Mustangs started off the second set with an 8-3 run that would later be turned around by the Matadors. A service ace by Katie Sato and three consecutive kills by Allen, Stinson and Conati allowed the Matadors to claim their first lead of the set at 10-8.

The Matadors lead did not last long as the Mustangs continuously fired back. 2 final kills from the Mustangs allowed the Mustangs to win the set at 26-28.

The third set looked like it would belong to the Mustangs as they scored the first three points. A kill from Conati helped the Matadors secure a 10-7 lead but the team would not be able to maintain such a cushion. After a 20-20 tie, the Matadors ended up scoring the last five points that end the set at 25-20.

The fourth and final set was dominated by the Matadors. The team was able to establish 9-point lead at one moment, bringing the score to 21-12. A 4-1 run by Cal Poly was able to shorten the Matadors lead at 24-19 but by then, it was too late. The Matadors sealed the set at 25-19 with a final kill by sophomore Julie Haake.

The Matadors will be continuing their travel schedule, making their next stop to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
