The NFL salary cap increase shouldn’t frustrate people. Sure there is a lot of money being spent, but that money is being put towards a means of entertainment for fans and the players.

When the NFL season comes around, some Americans watch with anticipation while others don’t seem to care much for football. For those fans who do care, the NFL salary cap increased from 10 million to 143 million dollars. This is a benefit to fans all around because there will be more draft picks for teams and there will be equal parity.

Regardless if an individual watches the sport or not, it is bound to be discussed. This comes to no surprise considering that 205 million Americans watched at least one football game during the season. Being that the NFL has so many viewers, CSUN students are bound to be some of them. I know that I am.

Anyone who watches any type of sport will realize that draft picks can be useful. It is a way for teams in the organization to pick players they want on their team. Players can be traded and new players are selected as well. The point is to pick players who the coach and league think will help improve the ranking of the team.

I know that I like to watch the draft picks because I want to see the new faces that are joining my team. It can also be devastating to see players leave if they were an asset to the game. Viewers and fans eagerly wait to see what new transformations their team is going to make. Will the draft pick benefit the team or will the pick have been a waste? This is what makes watching football so fun.

Having more money to help and pick players can also be a downfall. Just as easy as it is to get excited about having certain players on your team, players can get taken away as well. With all 32 teams increasing their salary cap, each is looking to improve the team. This means that players who were once an asset for a team can become a team’s worst nightmare.

Another benefit to the salary jump— equal parity on each team. Of course every team wants to be the best. They want the best players to produce the best outcomes. After all, what team wouldn’t want to win? However, when watching a game, it is no fun to see one team being completely demolished by the other. There needs to be fair play.

Equal distribution of team players makes watching the game intense. Having too many really good players on one team can be boring. I know that I wouldn’t want to watch a game where one team is always winning because they paid for all the good players. By having equal distribution players have a game that is challenging and viewers have the pleasure of watching a game that makes them sit on the edge of their seats. If there is no fight or drive in a game, there isn’t a point in watching sports.
