Women’s Tennis: CSUN on a roll after consecutive 4-3 wins at Cal Poly and UC Irvine

With the Big West Tournament fast approaching, the CSUN Women’s tennis team (14-4, 5-2 Big West) defeated the Mustangs and Anteaters this weekend.

In singles competition, senior Criss Rodriguez defeated Cal Poly’s Hannah Stone in three sets: 7-5, 1-6, and 6-3.

Junior Jessica Warren beat Zoe Oedekerk in two sets: 6-1 and 6-4.

Sophomore Kristen Poel won her match against Sayaka Tsugai in three sets: 6-2, 4-6, and 6-3.

In doubles competition against Cal Poly is where the victory was secured where the team of sophomores Mickey Hsu and Poel beat the team of Louise Oxnevad and Danè Joubert. 8-5. Rodriguez and Warren defeated the team of Oedekerk and Reed 8-7.

Against Irvine, the team didn’t win any doubles events, but Hsu won her singles match in straight sets: 6-4 and 6-3. Rodriguez won her set 2-6, 6-2 and 6-1. Poel prevailed in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and Warren sealed the Anteaters fate with her straight set victory: 6-1, 6-1.

The Anteaters, Matadors and UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are all now 5-2 in Big West standings.

The Matadors will head into their April 19 match against the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine to close out the regular season.
