Women’s Tennis: CSUN falls short of rally, lose 5-2 to San Diego State

The Matadors (12-4, 3-2 Big West) lost 5-2 to San Diego State Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference match on the campus of the Aztecs.

In singles play, Junior Jessica Warren improved her overall record to 10-2 on the season with her 6-1, 6-4 victory in the sixth draw. Warren has been playing well, winning seven of her last eight singles matches.

Senior Criss Rodriguez won in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-4, to earn her team-best 12th singles win of the season. CSUN lost a pair of three-set decisions in the top two matches.

Sophomore Vivian Lin lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and sophomore Mickey Hsu lost 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the second draw. Lin and Hsu were unable to rally in their matches despite a tremendous effort on their part.

In doubles play, the Aztecs won two of three matches. In their only victory in doubles play, Rodriguez and Warren dominated their opponent to achieve a 6-1 decision in the No. 3 draw to improve to 9-3 on the season.

The Matadors finish their four-game road trip when they travel to Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, April 10 to face the Broncos in a conference match at the Kellogg Tennis Complex at noon.

1. Buth vs Lin  6-3, 4-6, 6-4

4. Rodriguez vs Johnson 7-5, 6-4

5. Diaz vs Poei 6-3, 6-1

6. Warren vs Somoracz  6-1, 6-4
