Things to do at CSUN: 5/4-5/7

12:30 p.m. – Monday, May 4

Head over to the Oviatt Library for a three-day provocative lecture discussing the topics of sex and gender. Day-one will cover the topic of “Climax: Gender and Women’s Studies Student Research Symposium.” Keynote speakers, panel discussions about sexuality and a Q&A with the creative director of the Lavender Effect, Andy Sacher, are scheduled throughout the week. The Lavender Effect is a non-profit organization formed by Los Angeles members of the LGBTQ community. The free event is organized by CSUN’S Gender and Women’s Studies Department. 11:00 a.m. – Tuesday, May 5

It’s crunch time for extra study time with finals approaching. There’s no need to stress because member of the University Student Union will supply free massages, breakfast snacks, beverages, exam supplies and crafts. If you’re looking for a quiet place to study the computer lab will have extended hours to 5 p.m. on Saturday at midnight on Sunday. This event will continue through Thursday, May 14. 12:00 p.m. – Wednesday, May 6

Get ready for this semester’s last mid-day pool party at the Student Recreation Center pool. The free event will give away a Subway meal to the first 100 students wearing a bathing suit. Students can eat free food, play games and enter a raffle with prizes. For more information click, here.

6:30 p.m. – Wednesday, May 6

Seventeen-time Grammy winner and Avery Fisher Prize award winner Yo-Yo Ma will perform a cello concert in the Valley Performing Arts Center. Tickets range from $150 – $500 and include pre-show drinks and food in the courtyard. The performance proceeds will benefit the VPAC. Yo-Yo Ma has created over 90 albums and numerous awards. 8:30 a.m. – Thursday, May 7

Start your morning with a group work-out in the park. Join 100 Citizens, a program delivered by the CSUN Kinesiology students, for a free exercise program at the Lanark Recreation Center. Put on your sneakers every Tuesday and Thursday for the neighborhood boot-camp-style classes. The group meets at 21816 Lanark St. Canoga Park, Ca 91304. For more information click, here.
