Monday, Feb. 8

Film Screening: “Hollywood Shuffle”

Register for the film, Hollywood Shuffle, and a Q&A with special guest Robert Townsend. Hollywood Shuffle follows an actor who is limited to stereotypical roles because of his ethnicity and dreams of making it big as a highly respected performer. The event is free and begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Alan and Elaine Armer Screening Theater in Manzanita Hall. Registration is required, and light refreshments will be provided following the Q&A.

Monday, Feb. 8

The Five Ps of Partying: Your Guide to Safer Partying in College

Come join us for an hour-long presentation from 10 to 11 a.m., which aims to help students identify negative and harmful consequences of high-risk alcohol and drug use. The event, which will be held in the Oasis Wellness Center Vitality Room, will include quizzes, videos and group discussion as well.

Serenity Yoga

Students can register for Serenity Yoga, which brings healing and balance to the body’s systems. This Hatha-based yoga class targets relaxation and includes posture, breathing exercise and meditation. The class will take place from 11 to 12:10 p.m. in the Oasis Wellness Center Reflection Patio and is free of charge.

Guided Meditation

The Oasis Wellness Center will hold a meditation class, which looks to remove stress and replace it with a dose of inner peace and is a great tool to balance your emotions, deal with physical and psychological distress, and promote the peace of the present moment. The event will be held from 4 to 4:55 p.m. in the Vitality Room and is free to all CSUN students looking for a relaxed evening.

Mata”door” to Wellness: Healthy Habits to Help You Thrive

For 60 minutes CSUN will cover six areas of health that impact students every day: stress management, sleep improvement, substance abuse prevention, exercise, healthy eating, and sexual and reproduction health. The event will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Oasis Wellness Center Vitality Room and is free of cost.

Tuesday, Feb. 9

Centering with Scents: Introduction to Aromatherapy and Guided Meditation

The Oasis Wellness Center will put on a 30-minute workshop in the Oasis Wellness Center Radiance Square, which gives students an introduction to aromatherapy and guided meditation. Students can learn techniques to help manage stress and will include an experiential portion that will allow students to exercise aromatherapy. The event, which is free to all CSUN students, will hold two sessions from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Opening: Historicizing & Contemporizing the Black Aesthetic

CSUN will hold an exhibit called, “Historicizing & Contemporizing the Black Aesthetic: Keeping the Legacy Alive,” which will include poster presentations, media history, fashion, jewelry and artifacts organized by Dr. Theresa White and Dr. Cedric Hackett of the Department of Africana Studies. The event, which is free, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. in the Oviatt Library Gallery.

Wednesday, Feb. 10

GROOV3 Hip Hop Dance Class

Come join other students for a high-energy hip hop dance class with the mission to inspire change and build communities through dance. The event is a part of Black History month and will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Redwood Hall, Room 292. Cost is free.

Art Therapy at the Oasis: Contemplation Painting

The Oasis Wellness Center will hold a free workshop, which uses painting to improve your stress levels, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The event is held every Wednesday, and registration begins 24 hours before the class date. Cost of the workshop is free for all students.

Oasis Wellness Center will be hosting a workshop called, “Cultivating Mindfulness,” which aims to teach the meditation techniques that will help you gain a more relaxed, stress-free life. The workshop is free to all CSUN students from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Serenity/Vitality Meeting Room, located in the Oasis Wellness Center.

Let’s Work Together to Save Energy and Water

CSUN will hold an event from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Human Resources Training Room, Oviatt 16, Garden Level, which will teach those attending about several rebates and free programs offered to make homes more efficient. The workshop is free and all attendees will receive free refreshments, water bottles, low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators.

Thursday, Feb. 11

Andrei Rulev

This film, which is three hours and 20 minutes in length, covers the story of Russia’s greatest icon painter, Andrei Tarkovsky. Andrei Rulev has only been presented as shortened, censored versions until the Criterion Collection created this 205-minute special edition. The event will open begin at 7 p.m. in the Armer Theater (MZ 100) and is free to all students.

“Let’s Beat Test Anxiety” Workshops

Dr. Saimir Thano of University Counseling Services will lead a workshop, which teaches ways to manage and improve your anxiety when it comes to test taking. The event takes place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Oasis Wellness Center and is free of charge for all students on campus.

How to Travel Healthy Internationally

CSUN’s Oasis Wellness Center will hold a workshop, which will provide the international traveler with all they need to know to travel healthy and will highlight immunization requirements. The event will be held from noon to 1 p.m. and is free to all CSUN students.

Saturday, Feb. 13

Black Youth Guidance Forum

This day-long event is for CSUN students in the Africana Studies Urban Studies option, credential candidates, and Liberal Studies majors, as well as African American youth and other youth of color, school stakeholders, and nonprofit organizations in the Los Angeles County. It will include featured speakers, four instructional tracks, and a Nonprofit Resource & Advocacy fair. Anyone interested in the health, well-being, and educational attainment of African American students of color in per-kindergarden through 12th grade should attend. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the University Student Union and is free of charge.

Saturday, Feb. 13

Get CPR, AED and First Aid Certified in One Day at the SRC

For $45, CSUN students can take classes to get certified in CPR, AED and First Aid. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center and requires online registrations.
