Bob Dylan: Photographs by Daniel Kramer @ Grammy Museum

It was an iconic transformation in music when Bob Dylan plugged in, ultimately cutting ties with his folk roots for electrifying rock. This transition, and other seminal Dylan moments were captured by photographer Daniel Kramer and are now on display at the Grammy Museum in Hollywood. The New York based artist premiered the 50 plus photo gallery in Dylan’s hometown of Hibbing, Minnesota before packing it up and heading west, just in time for Dylan’s 75th birthday.

Concert fundraiser for Senator Bernie Sanders @ The Regent

If you’re “feeling the Bern,” there’s nowhere else you need to be on Wednesday than at The Regent for a half punk rock karaoke night, half Bernie Sanders fundraiser. Hosted by the New Sound alliance, this event takes place just a few weeks before the June 7 California primary and will feature musical performances by some of Los Angeles’ best punk bands, like The Garden, Death Hymn Number 9, Kim and The Created and The Birth Defects.

Thursday 5.12-Campus Event

CSUN media composition and studio ensemble @ VPAC

Jungle Book composer John Debney will join the CSUN Media Composition and Studio Ensemble in the VPAC this Thursday. Debney will conduct works he contributed to notable films like “Iron Man 2” and “Passion of the Christ.” The event will also feature a selected group of music majors who will conduct self-written pieces with a Hollywood orchestra. There will be a Q & A session with Debney before the event. Call the VPAC office at (818) 677-3000 to purchase tickets.

FIDLAR, No Parents @ The Observatory OC

Los Angeles garage rockers FIDLAR are well worth the drive down to Santa Ana this Friday. The foursome take over The Observatory OC for two nights with songs like “Cheap Beer” and “Wake Bake Skate.” These guys will make you proud to be from Los Angeles. This is one stacked lineup too, so be sure to get there to see early the valley’s own No Parents, Oakland’s SWMRS and The Frights.

Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds” 50th anniversary tribute @ The Echo

Probably the most iconic record celebrates it’s 50th birthday this month. That’s right, it’s “Pet Sounds,” a 35-minute summer vacation in song form, and the brainchild of inimitable Brian Wilson. It goes without saying that this record was a game changer, and solidified The Beach Boys as legends of rock and pop music. The Echo will pay tribute to The Beach Boys Sunday night with performances Feels, Froth, Joel Jerome, Thee Commons and more.

“Jailhouse Rock”/”Purple Rain” double feature @ New Beverly Cinema

Do you think Elvis and Prince would have been friends? The latter was certainly inspired by the former, in terms of both song and fashion. Both legends graced the silver screen during the careers, and on Monday you can see Prince’s “Purple Rain” (1984) and Elvis star in “Jailhouse Rock” (1957) in a double feature showing at the New Beverly Cinema. Celebrate legends in music at the Tarantino-owned movie theater.
