CSUN student overcomes hardships to receive Ali C. Razi Scholar Award

The CSU awards annual scholarships to students throughout the system, and this year’s top honor went to a CSUN student. Ryan Grady, 28, was named the highest-ranking Hearst Scholar and given the Ali C. Question of the Day: Is an “affirmative action” themed bake sale appropriate or racist?

Resources being preserved in light of budget cuts

Budget cuts have affected more than just students trying to crash classes.  Administration has felt the pinch and are making changes to save resources and make them stretch. In January the governor’s office released the 2011-12 budget for the CSU system which called for an 18 percent reduction in state support.  Translated to monetary terms, about $500 million that has been cut. Engineering opportunities to be increased by President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness

President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness plans to increase the number of graduating engineers in the U.S. by 10,000 a year and the number of hands-on training and internship opportunities by over 6,000 a year, in order to stay competitive in the global market, according to an Aug. 31 press release. U.S. terror related deaths decrease since 2001

American terrorism-related deaths have decreased over the past several years, according to a yearly report compiled by the U.S. Department of State. In 2010, 15 private citizens were killed in terror-related incidents, half of the reported figures from 2002. Reported deaths occurred in areas outside the continental United States, in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. Question of the day: Is 9/11 commemorative wine in good taste?

USU to make renovations and changes its top priority

Plaza del Sol will soon be brought up to date with its campus companion, the VPAC, after USU board of directors voted Monday to replace the hall’s 500 chairs and renovate the lobby.
