Award winning film director Amir Bar-Lev has a new documentary set for limited release in Los Angeles and New York Oct 5. “My Kid Could Paint That” is a documentary about the Olmstead family, and what makes the family noteworthy is their young daughter.

Professors, students speak out about U.S. Constitution

CSUN held an event to celebrate and discuss Constitution Day at the Sierra Center on Saturday to help inform people about the U.S. Constitution. Among those in attendance who were asked to devote more thought to the purpose of the Constitution were CSUN students, faculty members and instructors from other schools.

Proposed new lighting system could save energy, costs

A plan is currently in the works to remotely control campus lighting using power lines already in two parking structures to save energy and costs. The cost of installing remotes into the B3 and B5 parking structures would be more than $110,000. The money saved from the retrofit lighting would be more that $37,000 per year.

Imagine the arts on campus in ’09

Construction is scheduled to begin this academic year for the Imagine the Arts Center project, which received $2.5 million this summer toward its $100 million price tag from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. “I’ve studied the drawings, and I can say without hesitation that there’s very little this center can’t do,” said Ralph Hoskins, executive director of the performing arts center project, which will break ground east of Cypress Hall, near the corner of Nordhoff and Lindley avenues.

Hockey anyone?

CSUN has a hockey team? asked recent graduate Aaron Davitian. And he was probably wasn’t the only person who was shocked to hear that information. But despite being unknown by some of the student body, the team is strong. The Matadors finished the ’06-’07 season with a 13-7 record and placed fifth in the Division 3 Pacific region.

CSUN’s strive for education has earned it a rank among the top schools in the country in awarding degrees to minority students. Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine ranks all colleges and universities in the United States for degrees awarded to minority students every year.

Professor strives to strengthen ties between CSUN and China

CSUN has helped the United States and China shape a mutually beneficial and friendly relationship for the past 25 years. Dr. Zhixin (Justine) Su is the coordinator for International Programs, but that is not her only responsibility. Su is also the director of the China Institute, a program designed to serve as a channel of communication and education between China and CSUN.
