Campus police run safety shooting drills

The Department of Public Safety at CSUN engaged in its first multi-agency active shooter drill on Jan. 3. The campus shooting drill took place in and around the Northridge Academy High School. The California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District Police Department joined CSUN police in an exercise that coordinated the different agencies in responding to a shooting on campus.

It’s a Thursday and there’s a slight chill in the air. The hot days that Southern California are known for are nowhere in sight on this particular afternoon. The chill can seem arctic cold if you’re not a CSUN swimmer. Despite the harsh weather, swimming practices continued as scheduled.

New process required for screenwriters

The department of cinema and television arts is requiring a portfolio submission for prospective screenwriting option majors this semester after facing increasing student numbers and a decreasing fiscal budget. The screenwriting option is the second option in the CTVA department to institute a mandatory portfolio requirement.

Leisure center helps children grow

The Center for the Study of Leisure and Play focuses on promoting a well-balanced lifestyle that incorporates leisure time as a combatant against stress. In fact, the faculty and students in the department of recreation and tourism management extension center are engaged in extensive work in the community throughout the year funded by CSUN students.

?Men and women defeated by Huskies

Although the Matadors lost both the men’s and women’s competitions against the visiting Washington Huskies on Saturday, the swim meet still provided a wealth of learning and personal victories. The women’s 400-meter medley relay set the tone for the meet, with the Huskies taking a first-place finish at 3:53.

Healthy options pay the price on campus

It’s 11:48 a.m. and my mind has lost its never ending battle with boredom, which has resulted in my eager anticipation to spring from my desk in my Sierra Hall classroom for the exit door. My next destination after my professor sets me free after what seems like an eternity of patience, which in reality was just two minutes of my time, is a much needed food break.
