Sports clubs’ practice times, classes overlapping due to lack of facilities

CSUN sports clubs’ practice times are bumping into each other because of a lack of available space. The clubs’ practice schedules are often overlapping and practice hours have been changed in response to an increase in kinesiology activity classes for the spring semester.

Student projects to get increased funding

The Universiy Corp.’s Student Project Committee plans to increase the amount of funding available to students’ projects, said Juana Zamora, chair of SPC an SPC committee member. Though student projects are funded by SPC, the amount of money available to students is often limited due to TUC budgeting.

Oscar-nominated French film gets intimate with diverse WWI characters

Joyeux Noel”, written and directed by Christian Carion (“The Girl From Paris”), details the lives of four individuals whose lives are swept up by WWI. It focuses on one miraculous Christmas night in 1914 when their stories intersect on the French frontline.

Hearing for slain student postponed

The preliminary hearing for the five defendants in the Blake Anthony Crawford murder trial has been rescheduled for March 30 at San Fernando Superior Court House. The hearing was originally scheduled for Feb. 21 but was postponed. At the Feb. 21 rescheduling hearing, presiding Judge Cynthia Ulfig ordered medical records from the Northridge Hospital released to the defense attorneys for the five defendants.

BSU shows “Dark” to students for Black History Month

Daily Sundial The Black Student Union and the Ed??ucational Opportunity Program co-sponsored a screening of the film “Dark,” which is about a young man struggling to deal with being a student at the University of Chicago and living on the poor, south side of Chicago.

Cyber attacks, high use slow down Web Portal

Daily Sundial The CSUN web portal was slow at the beginning of this semester, partly due to cyber attacks, according to the interim chief information officer of Information Technology Resources. At the beginning of the semester, finding what all the problems were with the portal was not easy.

After 30 years on job, Dorena Knepper retires

Daily Sundial Dorena Knepper, longtime CSUN director of governmental affairs, began her retirement on Dec. 31, 2005 after working at the university for more than 30 years. Knepper’s job took her from Sacramento all the way to Washington, D.C., lobbying lawmakers to improve the lives of students.

Street closes after neighbors show concern about traffic

Daily Sundial Etiwanda Avenue was closed permanently between Plummer and Halsted streets Jan. 2 after a traffic study indicated that several homeowners were concerned about the flow of traffic, according to university officials. The closure of Etiwanda Avenue came after an April 2004 traffic study that was aimed to document traffic during peak hours, said Colin Donahue, director of Facilities Planning at CSUN.
