Is Yosemite National Park in danger?

Maybe. Such a scenic, breathtaking natural place might just be in danger. But of what you might ask? There has been about 285 mining claims  in the 10 miles surrounding Yosemite National Park, reports Dan Jacobson, legislative director of Environment California. See map of active mining claims on Facebook that shows how close to the park those companies are mining. This is an issue, and has been an issue as of late more than ever, because those gold mines use… Read more

So many organic, Fair Trade certification labels

There has been a few friends, relatives, even strangers, asking me what type of certification label should they look for on products, like chocolates, coffee, energy bars, etc. It seems like an easy answer, though as I caught myself responding to their questions, they had follow up questions that made a Q&A into a conversation then into a short workshop on certification labels. I could only get into so much of what certification labels to look for because different types… Read more

Understanding Environmental Sustainability

The use and definition of “Conscious Ecology” is meant to act in a conscious manner about our environment, which involved us the people. Environmental sustainability isn’t only about the”green” aspect like conserving energy, money, water and recycling or down cycling items, it is that and more. Sustainability deals with the people and food, for example, making sure that people live well especially from the products they produce, for those that do since a lot of our consumption comes from them/that,… Read more

Let’s do some good with our spending

We cannot be too naive or ignorant nowadays. We really can’t. Technology, some may argue, has turned many into zombies, though now on its own but as a big support, it helps us educate and inform ourselves. Point being, so much is going out there, out in the world and the main aspect of life that makes my stomach turn and even upset, though willing to something about it, is poverty. We Americans love to spend our money, good or… Read more

Banking or investing in a socially responsible way

Clean air cars – 2010 models

The following are some cars I came across from Clean Air Choice, which list the 2010 cars that are at the top of clean air cars by having a low Carbon Footprint. The rating of the Carbon Footprint on the cars is based on the cars driven about 15,000 miles per year. (visit fueleconomy.gov for info) Some, if not all, of the cars I list can be seen in the Los Angeles Auto Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center… Read more

CREDO Mobile, making a difference with your cell phone

I came across Green America, a nonprofit organization who’s mission is “to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society,” early in September at the Fair Trade Futures Conference in Quincy, Mass. and really liked what they are all about. Basically, Green America is all about being socially and environmentally responsible by promoting, educating and working with ‘green’ businesses and people. I recently received their packet and came across CREDO Mobile, one of the greenest cell phone services out there…. Read more
