Her second topspin serve was so weak that the opponent was hitting forehand winner and giving a sarcastic smile. She was also playing into the opponent’s forehand, her biggest forte.

Instead of playing baseline, she could have played approach shots an, allowing her to attack the net where she excels. Serve and volley put pressure on the opponent with constant movements forcing her to make unforced errors. Also, points become shorter and you don’t become tire.

We can all learn that we need to keep our cool during times of duress to make sound decisions. Doane, serve and volley is your game’s biggest asset, use it.

Instead of admonishing her, she gave her a high five and smiled at her to boost her morale. In the next point, Yang played a terffic volley and they won the point. I usually hate playing doubles for this specific reason. It puts pressure on me and ruins the fun of the game.

I would rather be in control of the game myself. Players need to be very careful in choosing their doubles partner.

 I know this form personal experince, sometimes I start cursing at myself when I’m playing bad so my friend starts saying “anger managment” in a sarcastic tone. It shows that his/her game is affecting your morale. It’s a sign of showing weakness.

The players were making adjustments to their games such as hitting weak serves which is detriment to their overall outcome.

Also, they weren’t able to control the ball.

There was an instance where Yang barely hit the ball because she mistimed it. The ball hit the frame of the racquet and went into the net.

In another instance, the ball bounced more than it had to and Doane wasn’t expecting it, so she hit a wide crosscourt backhand as she was out of position.

When there’s a rain, matches are postponed.

The same thing should happen with the wind.

One the games featured Captain Brooke Daone who was having a tough time in her singles game.

Although she was controlling her points with her serve and volley tactic, nevertheless she’ committing unforced error with her volleys.

She became increasingly upset and started berating herself “Why Brooke.”

When it was time to rest, you could feel that she was ready to rip anybody who dared to talk to her.

What I like about her was that she started using that energy to improve her game.

She started to change her tactic using slice forehand instead of relying on her volleys.

Also, she would keep saying to herself “Come On” to encourage herself.

Although she eventually lost the game in 3 sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) nevertheless I liked her approached in handling adversity.

The Matadors semmed rusty to start the game being down 12 to 17 at one point in the first half. Then the news guys lead the Matadors on a 17 to 2 run.
