CSUN in a run

A 7-0 run has given the Matadors the lead back after they trailed by three. They now lead 56-52. Rodrigue Mels had four points in the run. Tremaine Townsend just had a 3-point play to complete it. It’s still close and there’s 11:12 left in the game.

The Thunderdome

The court’s midcourt logo says “Thunderdome.” Shouldn’t it say “Gauchos”? or something? Back to the game. It’s CSUN up 45-43 with 15:54 to go.

And UCSB already hit more points than in his last game

UCSB’s last 3-pointer gave it 38 points, two more than in his last game, a 58-36 defeat at Pacific. Now they’re creeping around. CSUN’s still up, though, 43-40.

Second half adn Mels is starting it

Interesting. After scoring five points early in the game, Rodrigue Mels didn’t return for the rest of the first half. Now he’s starting the second.

Rob Haynes update

I’ve just been informed that CSUN guard Rob Haynes suffered a concussion and he’s at a local hospital being looked at. He also split his lip, but will be okay. He’s just being observed. Haynes went down early in the first half after diving for a ball at midcourt. Apparently he collided with a Gaucho.

And at halftime …

… it’s your Matadors up 39-33. Josh Jenkins, who is in a personal match with the fans, leads CSUN with 10 points. James Powell leads UCSB with 11. CSUN’s shooting 40 percent from the field. The Gauchos are at 42 percent.

UC vs. CSU

The fans are yelling “UC rejects” at the Matadors. It’d be interesting to see what’s the record in head-to-head matches between UC schools and CSU’s. Someone got that stat? The CSU is up right now 36-31. Jenkins just drilled another three … to the delight of the fans.

Someone give Somogyi the ball

Greg Somogyi is 7-2 and is just standing in the middle of the paint asking for the ball. He just came out of the game. Maybe his feelings got hurt. And the crowd’s still letting Josh Jenkins have it. CSUN’S up 31-29. Four minutes to play in the first half.

Long first half

There is still seven minutes left and we got a tight 25-24 affair at the Thunderdome. CSUN’s leading. Someone just threw a piece of bread on the court. Weird. CSUN’S Matthew Wallace’s gonna throw the ball in. Mark Hill makes a surprisingly easy layup.
