UCI closing in

Brett Lauer has made a three-point play to cut the CSUN lead to just one, 50-49, with 6:40 to go. Well CSUN hit two free throws. The lead is up to 52-49.

UCI is around

The Matadors have a 10-point cushion but the Anteaters are forcing the actions and getting the calls. The second half has been as scrappy as the first but the home team seems to be in control. Tremaine Townsend dunked a miss off a fastbreak that sent The Matadome into pandemonium and the Anteaters into a timeout. Mark Hill enjoyed it most out of everyone. He couldn’t wipe off a smile as he came back down the court. Score is now… Read more

Finally attacking the basket

The Matadors have come out aggressive in the second half and back-to-back 3-point plays and three Rodrigue Mels points have them up 38-31. UC Irvine’s not backing down, but it needs a timeout.

Second half

Dallas Rutherford is here but I don’t see Deon Tresvant anywhere.

Halftime: good sequence

Off a steal, Josh Jenkins finds Rob Haynes behind the 3-point line and the senior drills it. Then, Haynes actually screamed. That’s the most emotion I’ve seen out of Haynes this season. Then Jenkins got fouled by Brett Lauer and the Anteater fell down. Jenkins smiled, picked him up and said something to that Lauer mustn’t have liked because the two started jawing at each other for a bit. Anyways CSUN goes into the locker room up 29-26. Haynes leads… Read more

Things getting better

So now both teams seem to have found their stroke a bit and have exploded offensively to make the score 19-19 with 3:35 left to play in the first half. Josh Jenkins made back-to-back three pointers, which could be a good sign for the Matadors.

So many turnovers

There is still 7:50 to play in the first half and there have been 15 turnovers. Rob Haynes is still keeping CSUN afloats with seven points as his team trails 11-7. CSUN ball, when will anyone not named Haynes score? My next post will be when that happens. Never mind Willie Galick just scored on a tip-in.

Ugly game/Rob Haynes

If there wasn’t a Haynes, there would be no CSUN points right now. The Matadors trail 8-4 eight minutes into the game and both of the CSUN baskets have been Haynes jumpers. This is an ugly game. The teams have shot a combined 22 percent and they have 10 turnovers between them.

The Anteaters’ leading scorer

Mr. Eric Wise is averaging 13.7 ppg to lead UC Irvine in scoring. He doesn’t look like your typical leading scorer. He’s like a short version of Glenn “Big Baby” Davis. He’s listed as a 6-5  forward. He’s a freshman. Appearances sure are deceiving, though. CSUN sloppy early on and UC Irvine is up 6-0. Wise has four points (all from the free throw line).
