Legends night at Fullerton

Ok so they’re not so legendary right now, but the TItans also have brought out some former players. Scott Cuttley, whom last year led CSUF to the NCAA Tournament, is in attendance. Jonathan Heard tapped him in the shoulder when he first arrived at the gym. I talked to Jayme Miller and the former Matador said his life overseas playing pro basketball is “good.”

No problems in Fullerton at halftime

The Titans seem to have no business being on the court tonight. CSUN leads 40-24 at halftime and the home team doesn’t even have any momentum going into the locker room. Their fans are spirited despite their misfiring. This gym isn’t that much bigger than the Matadome, but the home court advantage can sure be felt. Their cheerleaders are looking pretty cute, too. But back to the game, Deon Tresvant is leading the Matadors with 11 points. Fullerton’s Gerard Anderson… Read more

Matadors lead big in Fullerton

CSUN seems to be in total control of the actions and leads 35-20 with 3:58 to go in the first half. Former Matadors Jayme Miller, who now plays in Holland, and Jonathan Heard (now a pro in Finland) just sat down next to me. Pretty good crowd at Titan Gym for the campus being closed and all.

Matadors get blown out on the road

The non-conference season is over and the Matadors (3-7) have unanswered questions and unexpected struggles to show for the 10-game, two-month span. San Diego State had little difficulty pushing them aside 72-56 Monday night and CSUN finds itself at the doorstep of the Big West Conference without having won a road game and, more importantly, not having shown why the whole solar system saw them as the best team in the modest league a few months ago. The Aztecs led… Read more

Recap: Matadors blast Waves for second consecutive win

Alonso Tacanga Sports Editor It was less than two minutes into a game the Matadors had to wait more than a week to play when Josh Jenkins lost control of the ball and marked his first turnover of the game Thursday against Pepperdine. And it’s going to be at least four more days for him to have another one, because that’s when CSUN (3-6) plays its next game, at San Diego State. The senior point guard made sure no ball… Read more

Final: CSUN 99 Pepperdine 64

There will be no free tacos tonight (Or is that the Lakers?). Total domination from the Matadors after the slow start. Deon Tresvant had 25 points and Josh Jenkins assisted 10 baskets and turned the ball over only once. For the Waves, who lost their 10th straight, Lorne Jackson scored 13 points. Up next for Northridge, it’s an away game at San Diego State on Monday. The Matadors will be looking to make that their first road win of the… Read more

Second half: On-court conversations

So with the game pretty much out of reach (down 30+ with about five minutes to go) Rico Tucker of Pepperdine decided to have a chat with Josh Jenkins while the Matadors were at the free throw line. I’m just wondering what he said. Maybe it went something like this: Tucker: I’m going to make a three-pointer in your face. Jenkins: Yeah, sure. Whatever. Following act, Tucker jacked up a three (this actually happened) and drew…air. Aiiiiiirball. CSUN up 88-51,… Read more

Second half: “Microwave” heating up

Deon Tresvant, who’s nicknamed “microwave” because of his ability to warm up quickly from the field, is feeling it right now. He’s had back-to-back three-pointers – again – and leads all scorers with 25 points. That’s almost double of what the Waves’ leading scorer, Lorne Jackson, has (13 points). CSUN’s still up 30. 7:33 to go.

Second half: I forgot

Josh Jenkins has only one turnover so far. That’s gold in Braswell’s team treasure chest.
