Willie Galick injured

Galick, a Matador starter, just went down with what seems to be an ankle injury. He was leading all scorers with 14 points. Northridge won’t need much more scoring tonight as they lead by 20 with just over five minutes left to play, but it sure hopes Galick’s injury isn’t serious. Braswell’s yelling out “emergency!” But no, he’s not calling an ambulance. He’s calling out a play.

Steadily ending the streak

CSUN’s in control here at The Matadome. It’s kind of boring, but hey Braswell’s not going to care about that too much.  Oh yeah I just found out that the Pioneers all look like babies because they happen to be the youngest Division I team in the country. Their age average is under 19 years old. Haynes just made a three-pointer and the Matadors lead is 51-31 with 11:30 to go in the game. Timeout

0-35

Here’s something i didn’t know. The Pioneers are winless in their last 35 road games. Man..that’s bad. If they find a way to somehow beat the Matadors tonight, well I’ll let that to you…. It’s not looking that way though. CSUN’s up by 15 early in the second half.

(Halftime) Here’s how Braswell communicates with Lizarraga

Michael Lizarraga is a very singular basketball player. The Matador is deaf, so Braswell needs some assistance when he wants to get a point across to him. That’s where Lizarraga’s sign-language assistant comes in. Just now Braswell wanted to yell at him a little and he had the lady signal something at him. It wasn’t exactly the same as if the coach was giving him the message, but it works. He scored on a layup following the exchange. It’s halftime… Read more

Braswell’s message

Braswell called a timeout following back-to-back Denver three-pointers and he had this to say to his team: “Show some toughness!” Yeah he yelled it high enough for everyone to hear, and it paid immediate dividends as Deon Tresvant got a steal in the next possession and helped extend the CSUN lead to 27-20. Matty the Matador is going all around high-fiving people.

So…

I don’t know if I’m liking these new black-and-red cheerleader uniforms… Oh yeah and this is the least red I have ever seen at the Matadome (without counting the cheerleaders of course).

Highlight of the night

What’s new? Alley-oop from Josh Jenkins to Tremaine Townsend. This one was really nice though. It was a two-on-one fastbreak and Jenkins threw it up. The Pioneer tried to intercept it, but instead got a mouthful of Townsend’s chest…and a foul. Now Denver’s picking it up..They’ve cut the lead to 16-12 with 9:09 to play. And here’s Haynes with another turnover and another benching…

Rob Haynes to the bench

Haynes is struggling for the Matadors. He’s not very focused tonight. He’s got two turnovers early and Braswell isn’t very fond of those around these days. The coach sent him to the bench… wonder if that’ll do the trick. Haynes isn’t very emotional at least. All I heard him say as he approached the sidelines was a low curse, one we’re all too familiar with, to himself. CSUN still up 7-2 with 15:00 to play in the first half.

Under way

You can tell these guys (Denver) are babies. And it’s not that i’m that much older than they are but they all look like they’re 18 or something. The Matadors are off to a positive start. They lead 7-2. All their points have come on layups.
