Five minutes till tip-off

Alonso Tacanga here blogging from The Matadome. CSUN (1-6), in need of  win, is about to take on Denver. It’s the Matadors’ first home game in a while. They went on a six-game road trip and came back from it winless. Denver’s warming up…CSUN just went into the locker room. The crowd here is nowhere near its capacity and that’s saying a lot since the Northridge home court can only fit 1,600… The Matadors just stepped onto the court… Where… Read more

Final countdown…Pauley takes the cracker

So as expected the Matadors were no match for the Bruins. UCLA used CSUN as a slump-buster after falling to Texas last Thursday, and opening the season with two quick defeats. This highlights a Bruin weekend that was filled with defeats. Their women’s soccer team fell to North Carolina in the NCAA semifinals. And of course, the Trojans once again beat down the inferior football Bruins. Well, at least they have have a football team that loses. It’s kind of… Read more

And Howland clears the bench

Mass substitutions by UCLA pretty much signals the end of the game as the fans also start filing for the exits to beat the traffic. Less than four minutes left and Bruins still up by 20. 77-57

Going through the motions

Nothing too exciting going on to report. We’re finishing our third complimentary soda’s of the night as the Bruins lead 70-49 with 8 minutes to play. (burp) excuse me. Doesn’t look like CSUN is going to be able to battle back. Manouk’s double-digit victory prediciton is now up in flames. Speaking of flames, a Carl’s Jr Flame-broiled burger sounds good. Or is that Burger King? Seems like UCLA has more points in the paint than CSUN has total points. They… Read more

Matadors on 10-2 run

Matadors brought the game to within 15 with a nice little spurt. Townsend had had a couple nice baskets underneath. And now the Bruins come back with 5 straight in about 20 seconds, stretching the lead back to 20. Under 12 minutes left. The Matadors didn’t bring the momentum back out of the locker room coming into the 2nd half. There’s still time left but CSUN needs to hurry.

Random blurbs

The UCLA press material is as big as the Yellow Pages. I’m sure they would make great bathroom reads. The UCLA ushers have been around since John Wooden was coaching. Who names their child Jrue anyways? The Bruin cheerleaders do nice backflips and did we mention the bands ugly Hawaiian shirts? anddd back to the game. Bruins up 58-35. 15 minutes left.

Collison back to back threes

Bruins start the second half hot yet again. Collison has taken over now, proving he is NBA ready. He’s dropped two straight threes to help extend the lead back to 20. 51-31 with 17 minutes left. Too bad we won’t see Collison in a Laker’s jersey….but perhaps maybe the Clippers.

First half stats

Josh Shipp leads all players with 13 points on 4-5 shooting. James Keefe is perfect from the floor, making all four of his shots for 8 points. For CSUN, Townsend has 7 points, Kenny Daniels has 6 points and 4 rebounds, and one monster dunk. Second half getting underway

CSUN closes the gap before the half

A 6-0 run before the half expires brings the Matadors to within 14 at halftime.  41-27 is the score. The last minute of the half was the most exciting.  Bruin Jerime Anderson made an awesome block on a fast break dunk attempt by Rob Haynes. Then as time was expiring, Kenny Daniels jumped a pass and took the ball downcourt for a tomahawk jam over Anderson, returning the favor. Definitely the best sequence of the game thus far. Be sure… Read more
