Chaparral Hall goes green

CSUN is going green with the new Chaparral Hall. It has many new environmentally friendly features from the way it was designed. Chaparral Hall uses fluorescent lights in all the rooms as well as energy saving light controls to help reduce the amount of energy the building consumes. The light controls include multi-level lighting levels and occupancy sensors to automatically lower lighting levels. The building was also made with energy saving heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The new energy efficient… Read more

Good news for iPhone users

Just today I was having a discussion with a friend about how much I love my iPhone. The only drawback that we both dislike is that the battery tends to die on us at the most inopportune time. Carrying my charger around and trying to look for an outlet has turned into a tedious task. It also wastes energy – especially when I forget to unplug the charger. As a student, I am constantly on the move and was in search of a better… Read more

A recount of The Presidents’ Town Hall Meeting

The second Presidents’ Town hall Meeting took place today. Thankfully, it was not as boring as the first. Students were more energized and combative. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall at the beginning of the event when Dr. Koester and Abel Pacheco (A.S. President) were chitchatting. Wonder if she was giving him a few tips on how to avoid answering some of the tough questions. Like last time, Koester managed to wipe her hands clean from all wrong doing… Read more

What’s your carbon footprint?

As I was browsing the web, I stumbled upon a cool site that calculates your carbon footprint. Scores are calculated based on six categories related to Home, Energy, Work, Commute, Travel and Lifestyle. The scores range from 150-900. The lower the score the better. The questionnaire took about 3 minutes. My score was 163 and my calculated carbon output is 0.4 tons. After you find out about your impact, you can browse for tip and pledge to reduce your number. In… Read more

Eco-friendly universities

An L.A. Times article titled “Sierra Club’s top 20 eco-friendly colleges include 3 in California” recently caught my attention. Of course, the first university I thought about was not CSUN but UC Berkley. I think it’s the hippie vibe that they exude up north that made me think of them. Berkley ranked eighth. And in case you’re wondering CSUN did not make the list but this is actually not a bad thing. In fact, there was only one Cal State… Read more

CSUN Holding On

Loyola is trying desperately to get on the board, but the Matadors continue to carry play in the 2nd half.  Every time the Lions have position down in CSUN’s defensive end, defender Katie Fox does a great job of clogging up the lane or clearing the ball.  There is only five minutes left and CSUN still leads 2-0.

2nd Half Matadors vs Lions Women’s Soccer

GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL.  Junior Sonia Espitia for the Matadors a little over three minutes into the 2nd half scored on a turnover by Loyola in their defensive zone.  It was Sonia’s 2nd of the year already.  The Matadors have taken control of play so far in the 2nd half.

WOW THATS MORE LIKE IT

Team leader Farryn Townley scored six minutes into the 2nd half and the game has completely changed in favor of CSUN.  Heidi Farran was credited with the assist.  2-0 Northridge.
