More injuries?

Another starter, Willie Galick, has come off the floor grimacing in pain. It’s not clear whether he’s hurt, tired or just practicing his pain face, but after an offensive foul was called on the Tigers (Galick was the recipient of the foul) the forward hobbled to the bench grabbing his knee. He’s back on the court. He seems fine. CSUN up 8-7 with 15:33 to go in the first half.

Bad start: Kenny Daniels down

CSUN starter Kenny Daniels went down with what seems to be an ankle injury. Following a turnover, Daniels sprinted back trying to catch the runaway Tiger but seemed to lose his stepand ended up on the floor grabbing his foot. He got up and tried to defend even though he was in clear pain. Finally a timeout was called and he came off the floor. He’s being attended on the sidelines. Pacific leads early on, 5-3.

Men’s basketball game time: Pacific @ CSUN

Live from the Matadome, the Matadors are ready to take on one of their toughest conference rivals: the Pacific Tigers. The Tigers have a history with CSUN, one that not every Northridge fan wants to talk about. Pacific has a 15-4 advantage in the all-time series and their most recent win came in dramatic fashion. Down two in the final seconds of a game played at Stockton last season, Michael Kirby (who’s no longer a Tiger) made a jumper at… Read more

Matadors dismantle Titans for first roadie, conference win

Alonso Tacanga Sports Editor Fullerton – It was mid October and the Matadors had just walked into a room smiling, ready to have some fun in the confinement of a backroom inside Matador Hall at CSUN. It was photo day. Grins as white as their brand-new home uniforms, and jokes (not nearly as white) were tossed around among the newly-assembled 2008-09 group that had been proclaimed by almost everyone as “No. 1” in the Big West Conference. Months went by,… Read more

Game over: Matadors 90 Titans 64

Well. I don’t think anyone expected a blowout as the Matadors’ first road win of the season. But you know what they say: Eight time is the charm. CSUN is now 1-7 away from The Matadome. More importantly, with their 90-64 win, they’re 1-0 in the Big West Conference. Full recap to come shortly.

Winding down

Not even Josh Akognon, the nation’s third best scorer in games played through Dec. 21 (averaging 25.5 ppg.), has been able to get it going tonight. Minutes ago he was 3-of-11 from the field for eight points. The Titans trail 85-61 and Willie Galick just threw down a dunk that even made the CSUN radio broadcasters, who are sitting next to me, jump up in celebration. It was pretty impressive. I myself had to cover my face to not let… Read more

Great band

Fullerton’s got the spirit, the cheerleaders and the band. Definitely some tunes I’d like in my ipod being played tonight by the Titan band. I’m going deaf, but in delight. Imagine if their team was winning, or at least IN the game. CSUN up 75-53 with 7:45 to go.

Deon Tresvant…

Tresvant has given the Matadors a 59-42 lead with back-to-back three-pointers, even quieting these riled-up Fullerton fans. (Jenkins’ three makes it 62-42). A small group of CSUN fans have made their way to Fullerton. They were yelling “we can’t hear you,” to their counterparts across the floor. Yeah, well, for all the trash they were talking, they’re pretty quiet now. Silencing them even more, another CSUN three. This time it was Rob Haynes. 65-44 Matadors with 11:45 to go. But… Read more

Where is the home court advantage?

Even the refs aren’t helping the Titans. There was a ball up for grabs and Willie Galick and a Fullerton player went up for it. Galick ended on his tail and the official called a foul on the Titan. Not to say it wasn’t a foul, but those calls usually go “uncalled” or to the home team. But hey here come the Titans. They’re within nine. This crowd is going nuts. Josh Jenkins just got fouled and he’ll try to… Read more
