Stop being a tree killer

I have one question. Have you been naughty or nice this year? I don’t know about you, but I’ve tried my hardest to be extra good because I have my eye on a few green gifts that were posted a week ago. Can you say “iPad, please?” But no matter how hard I try to be good, I know during this time of year I’m a very naughty girl. Why? Because I have secret. I’m a murderer. Well, more like… Read more

A.S. funds BSU for Black History Month

A.S. voted to allocate $6,100 to Black Student Union (BSU) for Black History Month and for monthly workshops Tuesday. During the meeting, A.S. Director of Finance Vahan Khodanian said BSU would receive supplemental funding because the organization’s initial request made in late September was pending due to the amount of funds available at the time. He added BSU was instructed to come back in November. “We funded them that ($1,500) and we intended to fund this ($6,100) initially. No one… Read more

Out with the Old, in with the New

Student-Parents at CSUN, Holiday season is a busy time for parents of small children.  One of the reasons is because they’re always growing out of everything.  Whether it’s clothes or toys, they grow rapidly, physically and mentally.  Before the new stuff comes in, the old stuff has to go.  Since I have three children, I spend a whole day before the holidays getting rid of all the old. By the time I’m finished I have at least three bags worth… Read more

Best Deals are after Christmas

Student-parents at CSUN, It’s hard to believe the holidays are fast approaching, it seems like Halloween just passed.  The minute witches and spiders left the store shelves, they were replaced with candy canes and Christmas decor.  We haven’t even had a chance to sit down and give thanks, and we’re already bombarded with Christmas deals and rumors of what stores will have the best bargains.  Sometimes even thinking about shopping can cause a headache.  Maybe it’s okay not to even… Read more

Study abroad presentation for A.S.

Have you ever thought about traveling outside of the country, or taking classes at another university, but did not know how to make it a reality or financially possible? A.S. senators got the opportunity to learn how they could spread their wings and take their education on the road, or rather via airplane, in a special presentation Tuesday about CSUN’s study abroad programs. Juliet Aylmer, study abroad and national student exchange advisor, said she actually came to CSUN to study… Read more

Banking or investing in a socially responsible way

Nowadays people are skeptical in what to do with their money, either in shopping but mainly in banking and investing. If you are into investing money Green America is a good way to go. One of its main acts has been in spending money, about $1 billion worth of investments into disadvantage communities. Green America partners up with the Social Investment Forum, the national nonprofit association of investment practitioners advancing responsible investing. That is just an example of it does…. Spend green on Black Friday and go green

Black Friday is looming its ugly head over our wallets and our inner materialist. I, for one, love shopping. But what I hate is the guilt I feel after thinking about all the damage I did to the world (and my bank account!) after my splurge of purchases. I’m talking about the receipt paper, the plastic and paper shopping bags, the wrapping paper and the driving. Oh and not to mention the energy and CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere… Read more

Library presentation continues

With just a few weeks left in the semester, I have decided to write the remaining A.S. blogs in an informal way to move away from a rigid reporting style to a more conversational tone. As readers, I think you deserve to have your information given to you differently on blogs from time to time. So, with that said, let’s talk about what happened at Tuesday’s A.S. meeting. Library presentation Pop quiz: Name at least three services provided by the… Read more

Clean air cars – 2010 models

The following are some cars I came across from Clean Air Choice, which list the 2010 cars that are at the top of clean air cars by having a low Carbon Footprint. The rating of the Carbon Footprint on the cars is based on the cars driven about 15,000 miles per year. (visit fueleconomy.gov for info) Some, if not all, of the cars I list can be seen in the Los Angeles Auto Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center… Read more
