Most difficult times ahead for Iranian women

Iranian women face greatest instability within the last 30 years, as hard-liner President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gets closer to serving his second term despite allegations of a deceitful election that sparked the most massive uprising since the 1979 Iranian revolution. More than all other sectors of Iran’s society, women had the greatest venture in the 2009 presidential election.  Women groups demanded of all candidates to terminate laws that implement stoning and polygamy, plus those that favor men in divorce and custody… Read more

The protestor’s voice aired on CNN as she said, “I was going towards Baharestan with my friend. This was everyone, not just supporters of one candidate or another. “Till Death Do Us Part”

“Till death do us part” has taken on a new meaning in America as this promise of eternal unity has lost its external significance in our society. Today I ask, “Who is dying?”  The person who ravaged the faith and reliance of his family toward himself, and lost the trust of a nation by conducting a punishable act of disloyalty, or is it the one whose heart, dignity, and pride got taken away?  Either way, the pain is great and… Read more

My Big Stupid Country & the Twitter Revolution

The “Twitter Revolution” in Iran has captured the hearts of many Americans, and rightfully so. With the charismatic appearances of “the Persian Obama”, Mir Hossein Mousavi, it should come as no surprise. Realistically, the President of Iran has very little power; the Ayatollah has final say on all decisions including maintaining control of the military. The President’s biggest influence is felt in domestic affairs. This is what is possibly up for grabs in this latest power struggle. The idea of… Read more

Quest for democracy continues…

Tens of thousands of Iranians have relentlessly taken the streets of Iran seeking democracy and justice. Rather than missiles and ammunition, their weapon has been unity and faith.  Unity brought upon them by their common longing for freedom and change, and faith brought upon them by their common belief that it is, at last, their turn. Protesters, amongst which are determined middle-class, educated, and the youth, wear green and black.  Green represents the color of, opposition leader, Mir Hossein Mousavi’s… Read more

It’s not on the agenda…Yet

At a time when Iranians have taken it upon themselves to stand up and fight for the democracy they have been cheated out of, for the past three decades, the United States, contrary to previous measures, has decided to stay neutral and “not meddle”. Generations have been yearning indictment for continuous bloodshed occurring in Iran, in hopes of discovering the undelivered promise of democracy originally made by late Ayatollah Khomeini, former supreme spiritual leader (Valy-e-Faqih) of Iran, a designated label,… Read more
