Spring election amendments

Students will vote on four amendments that may change the A.S. Constitution in the Spring elections this semester. Two of them were discussed in depth during Tuesday’s A.S. meeting. No money for the Performance West Fringe Festival

During open forum during Tuesday’s Associated Students (A.S.) meeting was filled with students asking for A.S. support for the Performance West Fringe Festival, is a performance festival for students and faculty as is stated on their Web site. CSUN has been asked to host the festival April 8-11.  They decided to have the event off campus at the x-Repertory Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. New transit subsidy program

The Associated Students (A.S.) internal affairs reported on a new program that was introduced July, 2009 that offered a subsidy on 10-day and monthly public transit passes. This program gives $20 for each student using MTA, AVTA, and Metrolink services. The internal affairs committee sent out a survey of nine questions, which asked about 30 students who use the program how they heard about it and what they found most positive and other related information. Academic advisement awareness posters, aimed to help students stay on track

Associated Students (A.S.) approved a resolution Tuesday in support of academic advising awareness posters for undergraduate students. Undergraduate students find it difficult to obtain information as they progress in units, which leaves students taking the wrong classes and spending more time in school to make up for it. According to institutional research from campus, the percentage of undergraduate students currently over 120 units is from 2.22% in Social and Behavioral Sciences up to 9.73% in Engineering and Computer Science. Associated Students move to commemorate Haiti survivors

On Tuesday the Associated Students (A.S.) approved a motion to donate $1,000 to the George Clooney Foundation, that will benefit the Hope for Haiti Foundation and the Make It Right Foundation. They also passed a resolution to recognize and commemorate the survivors of Haiti by holding a moment of silence on or before Feb. 23. CSSA begins search for new student trustee

Miles Nevin, executive director of the California State Student Association (CSSA), made a presentation at this week’s Associated Students (A.S.) Senate meeting. One of his main objectives was to announce that the California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees is currently looking for a student to fill the seat of student trustee. “We are looking for someone who is passionate. A recount of The Presidents’ Town Hall Meeting

The second Presidents’ Town hall Meeting took place today. Thankfully, it was not as boring as the first. Students were more energized and combative.
