Letter grading companies that provide BPA-free packaging

About a week ago, a report came out that letter grades have been issued to companies that offer or don’t offer BPA-free packaging in foods and beverages. The investor report is intended to evaluate the performance of companies by addressing the problem of BPA in packaging, which is put together by the Green Century Capital Management (Green Century), an environmentally-responsible investment firm and advisor to the Green Century Funds. The report does have some surprises but overall it is a… Read more

You failed Climate 101 and the environment

You’re stupid, I’m stupid and apparently we are all stupid. Recently, Yale released a their study that found out the average American doesn’t know crap about climate change or global warming. And seriously, the findings almost made me embarrassed to be an American. (almost!) Some of the statistics and statements I read made me laugh. Yale found that 52 percent of Americans would fail Climate 101. It’s depressing, isn’t it? Well, don’t worry. There are many more just like you… Read more

Go green and think before you pink

We all have a pair, but this month we bring awareness to their health. Yes, I’m talking about the pair on your chest– your breasts. October is breast cancer awareness month and now more than ever are we seeing the pink paraphernalia pop-up and contagiously consume almost every product we purchase. But I have to ask, do you really think that we will find the cure for cancer just by buying stuff? From yogurt cups, bracelets to stuffed animals, they… Read more

CicLAvia turns out many pros and a couple of cons

This past Sunday, on 10/10/10, Los Angeles held its first Cicolvia, in LA known as CicLAvia, with 7.5 miles reserved mainly for bicyclists, but also for people to walk plus several activities were held throughout the route. I was a little disappointed that some sort of flu kept me in bed and made miss the opening at 10 a.m. in Hollenbeck Park, where Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Councilmember Jose Huizar kicked it off. I did, however, spend the afternoon in… Read more

Fashion brings green to a whole other level

If you know me, you know I love clothes. If you don’t, well now you do- and all I have to say is that green is all over fashion lately. First off, fashion is all about the epiphany. It really is about having those moments where everything is just right and you feel on top of the world- when all eyes are on you and that moment is nothing short of perfect. Well, these past few weeks, green lovers got… Read more

Death by product

I apologize about the dramatic entrance. But I felt that I needed to get your attention to tell you that everyday we are hurting ourselves, through the products we use. The other day after I took a shower, I decided to try this new hair serum that my friend was raving about last week. It smelled kind of funky, but she said it would do wonders for my hair- making it shiny, silky and smooth. I tried it and she… Read more

Electric car made in the USA?

The Nissan LEAF is the one of the top two electric cars in the United States; however, it isn’t foreign like almost every other car that is well built. Surprised? Same here. This particular car is made right here in the United States of America. It should be a good one. President Obama did say he wanted to improve car emissions and create electric cars, as well, and finally we have seen the beginning of this, even though other countries… Read more

Television gets trashy

As if television wasn’t dirty enough, on Wed. Sept. 29- it gets even trashier. CNBC plans on premiering “Trash Inc.: The Secret Life of Garbage,” a new documentary that takes a deeper look into our garbage, where it goes and who profits from the stuff we throw out. Garbage really doesn’t go “away” after it is whisked off by the noisy garbage truck at 6 in the morning. If it’s lucky, it gets composted or recycled. But most of our… Read more
