Letter to the editor: Mar. 18, 2010

To the Editor, I was so proud of my fellow students March 4 when I witnessed a much larger than expected protest. So many times I’ve been convinced that my generation was apathetic to anything other than electronic products (as another letter pointed out), but Thursday the participation I saw made me smile when the protesters occupied the intersection of Prairie and Reseda. What struck me as odd though was that there was no “connecting the dots” between national and… Read more

Letter to the editor: Mar. 10, 2010

In response to Lisa Squier’s letter published Mar. 9: Lisa Squier: I am proud to be an active participant in the walkout.  My participation included classroom interruptions and blocking traffic by sitting in the street. I am also dismayed you didn’t mention the horrendous police brutality perpetrated against unarmed peaceful protesters, including myself, several women who were pushed in the back and Professor Karen Baird-Olson. I’ll ask a simple question: How far do you think the civil rights movement or… Read more

Letter to the editor: Mar. 8, 2010

To the Editor, I wanted to comment on today’s walkout. And please note, this is just my opinion. Today I saw the most useless display of energy I’ve ever seen on campus. Students were walking through the quads and halls, yelling and banging on walls and opening classroom doors to disrupt classes. All in the name of protesting and to what purpose? Supposedly to hurt the administration enough to make them realize we as students are tired of the furloughs,… Read more

Dear editor, With the ongoing budget cuts and sometimes unexpected tuition and fee hikes, it is easy to see why so many students are frustrated that they are paying more for less. Teachers are being required to take up to five furlough days per semester. This means that in a class that meets two times a week, the student is missing out on almost 17% of the classes they are paying for. On top of that, tuition continues to rise… Read more

JONATHAN “YONI”  MANN Alpha Epsilon Pi (AEPi) Alumni, Former Recruitment Chair for the Interfraternity Council (IFC) In response to “The Greek society’s philanthropy apathy” Dear author and fellow Greeks, remember this is just another opinion piece and not the view of the Daily Sundial. The author attempts to highlight the positives of Greek life, which is more than the average non-Greek student knows, but unfortunately still has much more to learn about the Greek community. The author could’ve done more… Read more

Letter to the editor: Dec. 9, 2009

Hello editor- Thank you for your November 9th staff editorial concerning disabled placard violations. The Department of Police Services takes very seriously the misuse of disabled parking placards and therefore continues to aggressively pursue this violation and when possible partner with other agencies to provide strict enforcement of these laws. I wanted to provide you with some statistics that would shed some light on what the Department of Police Services has, and continues to do, to enforce such violations. Over… Read more

Dear Editor, The ‘Sex and the Nation State’ symposium, held Nov. 10, discussed issues concerning sex/gender and national security. The keynote speaker was an official from the Central Intelligence Agency, an indication that the methods and activities of government intelligence agencies not be questioned in this conference. But let us look at some of the activities of the CIA. It has overthrown elected leaders, for example in Iran in 1953, Guatemala in 1954, Brazil in 1964, and Chile in 1973…. Read more

Letters to the editor: Oct. 6, 2009

Where does one begin? How many of these anti-Israel rants does the Sundial intend to print year after year after year,  while your ‘Fact-Checker’ rots away like the crypt-master in Manzanita Hall.  Will anyone awaken the ‘Fact-Checker’ from his nightmarish slumber?  Why must your accidental & abashed readers always do it for you? Glatzer wants Israel to cease to be a Jewish State, although the Balfour Declaration and the League of Nations Mandate insisted that it be such.  Glatzer doesn’t… Read more
