M-Bball: Matadors host Cal Baptist in exhibition Saturday

During CSUN’s exhibition game a year ago, the Matadors struggled against Redlands before ultimately coming out victorious in overtime. The near-defeat to the non-Division I school seemed to be a sign of an awful 2010-11 season for Northridge. However, the Matadors were the surprise team in the Big West Conference, finishing third in the standings and advancing to the semifinals of the league tournament. A possible reason why CSUN had a tough time against Redlands was due to the debut… Read more

Weekly Column: Rivers not reaching potential in lackluster season

Courtesy of MCT

Any top quarterbacks list with Philip Rivers placed high on it is now fraudulent. Coming into the season, Rivers was projected as a top five quarterback, but what he’s shown so far barely has him cracking the top 20. In the fourth quarter of Monday Night Football, the Chargers and Chiefs were engaged in a 20-20 lock when Rivers drove his team down the field, converting on a third and 18 to set up Nick Novak for a 33-yard chipper… Read more

Jasmine Erving didn’t care that the game against The Master’s College on Saturday was only an exhibition. The 6-foot-2 senior center had no mercy on the non-Division I school from Santa Clarita, scoring 23 of her 27 points in the first half en route to CSUN’s 87-53 victory over the Mustangs at the Matadome. Erving slowed down in the second period, scoring only four points and didn’t play the final 15 minutes. Her teammates picked up the slack as the… Read more

For only the third time this season, the CSUN men’s soccer team was held scoreless and on two occasions it came at the hands of UC Irvine. After 110 minutes of gameplay, CSUN and No. 4 UCI could not find the back of the net and the match ended in a 0-0 tie Wednesday night at Matador Soccer Field. “I’m just happy we didn’t lose because we’ve been losing the last overtime (games),” said defender and co-captain Joe Franco, whose… Read more
