A virus has been going around Redwood Hall, and it’s made its way to CSUN head coach Jeff Stork. The 10th-year coach was said to have some kind of flu and was unable to run practice Wednesday. There was a chance he’d miss today’s session also, a team source said. “It’s different without him (in practice),” CSUN setter Sydney Gedryn said. “But we try not to think about it. It doesn’t bother me. We just want him to get healthy… Read more

RIVERSIDE — Thomas Ramos’ go-ahead goal in the 86th minute convinced the Matadors the victory was theirs, but the final four minutes was all UC Riverside needed to stage an epic comeback. “I guess we thought the game was over,” Ramos said after CSUN fell apart against the Highlanders on Wednesday night, losing 2-1 at UCR Soccer Stadium. Six weeks into the NFL season, several teams are arising as candidates for this year’s most surprising team. Some for their emergence after years of dreadful play, and some for simply improving and gaining experience. But are these pleasant surprises legit, or are they going to be the Denver Broncos of two years ago who started 6-0 and ended up missing the playoffs? San Fransisco 49ers Sunday’s win against the previously-undefeated Detroit Lions gave the Niners a 5-1 record, their… Read more

Whether the Matadors need a clutch kill or a skilled vocalist for karaoke night, Casey Hinger is your go-to person, CSUN head coach Jeff Stork said. “She was the lead singer for her high school play,” Stork said of her freshman middle blocker. “That takes a confident person. All that stuff overflows in what she does on the volleyball court.” The assertive Hinger will take the brutal smack of a volleyball over the microphone, though. “I love when you get… Read more

The CSUN men’s soccer team (6-6-1, 3-2 Big West) has gone into overtime four times this season and in every game the Matadors have come out winless. Redshirt junior defender Joe Franco has a simple explanation for that: “the curse of the overtime.” During CSUN’s 2-1 loss to UC Davis Saturday night in extra minutes, there were a few signs of the Matadors being cursed. Northridge allowed Aggie forward Matt Sheldon, who entering the match had yet to score this… Read more
