Free agents yet to sign on the dotted line

Nineteen days and counting, and not a single free agent signing has crossed the newswires. If you thought last season’s long and snail-like negotiations between Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers was means for hair-pulling and newspaper tearing, then prepare for an off-season filled with similar progress. After the Yankees won the World Series in their inaugural season in the new Yankee Stadium, Major League teams had an exclusive 15-day window to negotiate with their own free agents-to-be before they became… Read more

CSUN hopes to break even before the holiday

The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team is currently 1-2 in the young basketball season but would love to go into their turkey day with a .500 record and go 2-0 in their first road trip of the year. Winning their second game will not come easy, as the Matadors face the University of San Diego Tuesday night. An even record this early in the season may not sound important, but it is. Who wants to sit down at the… Read more

A look back at the 2009 Matador season

When CSUN’s women’s volleyball team kicked off the 2009 season in late August by placing second in the Bronco Invitational in Boise, Idaho, the prospects for the rest of season seemed high. But the following weekend, during the Asics/Coca-Cola Invitational hosted by the University of San Francisco, CSUN lost all three of their matches. Northridge finished preseason tournament play at the Nike Cougar Challenge in Pullman, Wash., with mixed results. Thus began a season-long trend of hard-fought battles and inconsistency… Read more

CSUN almost reaches Hilltoppers

The worst way to end a basketball game is having the referee blow the whistle on a ticky-tack foul when the game is on the line. Too many times do you see the ref send the home team to the free-throw line when they have the ball in the final seconds of the game and they’re down a point or two. Once again the officials took the game out of the players’ hands, and this time Cal State Northridge (1-3)… Read more

In a game of inches, Colts prevail

What was being billed as the ‘rivalry of the decade’ by NBC between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts was played Sunday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The billing did not disappoint viewers as a shootout ensued and eventually saw one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history, with the Colts shocking the Patriots 35-34. It is fair to call this the ‘rivalry of the decade,’ given that four of the last eight championships have been… Read more

CSUN trying to end the season on a good note

It may be too late for the Northridge women’s volleyball team to make a run for the Big West regular season title, but winning the last two road matches would be a meaningful way to end the season. The Matadors currently stand 8-20 overall and 4-10 in the Big West. The four wins beats their 3-13 conference finish in the 2008 season. CSUN will play Cal Poly first, which currently holds a similar record, 8-20 overall and 4-11 in conference…. Read more
