After taking a 3-0 lead in the opening inning, the Matadors thought their day was over and decided to get “comfortable,” said redshirt junior outfielder Adam Barry. The three runs CSUN scored were the only times the Matadors crossed home plate, losing 7-3 to Indiana University Friday afternoon in the first game of a three-game series at Matador Field. “We got excited in the first inning when we got three runs and after that it starting going down hill with… Read more

The Matadors are on a three-game losing streak after a trip to San Diego last weekend, but have a chance to snap their misfortune during a three-game visit from Indiana (3-7) starting Friday. CSUN (6-6) played four games at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational last weekend went 1-3, with their lone victory coming in the opener against the University of San Diego. Pitching has been the Matadors’ main problem this season. Northridge has allowed four 10-plus run games in… Read more

CSUN hit the road to take part in the SDSU Aztec Invitational over the weekend and had mixed results, only managing to claim one victory. Most teams that score nine runs in a game will come away with the victory but that wasn’t the case for Northridge Sunday. CSUN (6-6) was able to gather nine hits against San Diego State (7-6) in their final game of the SDSU Aztec Invitational, but a late comeback attempt fell short in a 12-9… Read more

The Matadors’ pitching staff has struggled finding the plate so far this year and the trend continued Monday afternoon in an 18-6 romping from Washington at Matador Field. Playing in gloomy weather, CSUN’s pitchers walked nine batters and allowed 17 hits in a shortened seven-inning game en route to their second home loss of the year. The Matadors (5-3) gave up multiple runs in six of the seven innings, allowing Washington (5-3) lead-off hitters to reach base safely in… Read more

Led by Alex Muren’s one-hitter in game 1 and Chester Pak’s 11th inning walk-off single in game 2, CSUN came away victorious twice during a Saturday double-header against Northwestern. CSUN opened the series with Muren on the mound and completed the late-inning comeback against the Wildcats in a 4-3 seven-inning win after being down 3-1 after four innings. Muren looked stellar for CSUN pitching the first one-hitter in Northridge history while fanning three batters on the day. Although the Wildcats… Read more

The Matadors may be coming off a 19-7 loss Tuesday against No. 22 UCLA, but don’t expect CSUN to have any lingering feelings heading into this weekend’s homestand. CSUN (2-2) will play four games against Northwestern (1-2) in three days, including a double header Saturday at Matador Field. “We’ll just have to come out everyday and be ready to play,” CSUN sophomore outfielder Miles Williams said. “We have to be ready every pitch and just play Matador baseball.” CSUN head… Read more

Giving up more than one multiple-run inning in a single game is always a remedy for disaster, and that’s just what CSUN did in its home opener Tuesday against No. 22 UCLA. CSUN (2-2) gave up a two-run shot and a three-run triple in the third inning, putting itself in a 5-0 hole that not even a nine-hit day could help as it lost 19-7. “We always want to score first,” CSUN head coach Matt Curtis said. “It puts you… Read more
