GDFSSDGS

With CSUN sweeping its conference series over Cal State Fullerton in a 2-1 victory Saturday night, the Matadors ended their season with an overall record of 8-8-3, 4-4-2 in the Big West Conference. Overtime was the problem that plagued Northridge for the entire season as the Matadors only went 0-4-3 in games that went beyond 90 minutes. Defender and co-captain Joe Franco doesn’t want to think about those stats heading into next season. “We can brush it off. We don’t… Read more

For only the third time this season, the CSUN men’s soccer team was held scoreless and on two occasions it came at the hands of UC Irvine. After 110 minutes of gameplay, CSUN and No. 4 UCI could not find the back of the net and the match ended in a 0-0 tie Wednesday night at Matador Soccer Field. “I’m just happy we didn’t lose because we’ve been losing the last overtime (games),” said defender and co-captain Joe Franco, whose… Read more

RIVERSIDE — Thomas Ramos’ go-ahead goal in the 86th minute convinced the Matadors the victory was theirs, but the final four minutes was all UC Riverside needed to stage an epic comeback. “I guess we thought the game was over,” Ramos said after CSUN fell apart against the Highlanders on Wednesday night, losing 2-1 at UCR Soccer Stadium. Even though the CSUN men’s soccer team lost to UC Riverside last season for the first time ever in Big West Conference play, the Matadors (6-6-1, 3-2 Big West) aren’t thinking about avenging their defeat as they travel to UCR Soccer Stadium Wednesday night to take on the Highlanders (6-5-2, 1-3-1). “No one cares about what happened last year,” Matador head coach Terry Davila said, talking about the 2-1 overtime loss a year ago. “All I care about is what’s… Read more

The CSUN men’s soccer team (6-6-1, 3-2 Big West) has gone into overtime four times this season and in every game the Matadors have come out winless. Redshirt junior defender Joe Franco has a simple explanation for that: “the curse of the overtime.” During CSUN’s 2-1 loss to UC Davis Saturday night in extra minutes, there were a few signs of the Matadors being cursed. Northridge allowed Aggie forward Matt Sheldon, who entering the match had yet to score this… Read more
