DREAM Act gets passed by House

The House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday night that would provide a conditional path to citizenship for as many as 500,000 children of undocumented immigrants. While the House approved the Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors (DREAM) Act by a vote of 216-198, the fate of the DREAM Act remained uncertain as the Senate postponed a test vote on the measure. A.S. gives money for the completion of a Torah

CHABAD, a Jewish student-run organization at CSUN, received a $2,000 allocation from A.S. for the completion of a Torah, a scroll that has the five books of Moses handwritten on parchment paper. Write-in candidates step up in A.S. election

A.S. closed their two-day voting polls Wednesday night, in what turned out to largely be an election of write-ins. While there were 11 Senate seats available to be filled, only three (Lower Division, Upper Division, and Social & Behavioral Sciences) had candidates running for office this term. Five vacant A.S. Senate seats to be filled in Wednesday’s election

CSUN’s A.S. Senate currently has nine vacant seats. “We don’t have our full number of senators,” said Dan Monteleone, A.S. Senate assistant director of elections. “Our student body is currently represented by 15 senators.” The Senate is composed of 26 voting members, two elected from each of the eight colleges, four at-large students, two lower- and upper-division students, two graduate students, the vice president and the president, who serves as chair. Associated Students senate fills three vacant seats

Associated Students (A.S.) senate approved three senators yesterday, decreasing the number of senate vacancies to 10. Joshua Taylor was appointed to the Upper Division II senate position, Natalie Perez to Health and Human Development II, and Ashley Walker to Lower Division II. There have been six applications received in the past two weeks, which includes the three recently appointed senators, which inquired about open senate positions, said A.S.
