The Matadors were able to end the season with a victory on Sunday after losing the first two games of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament.
CSUN women’s water polo team was able to come back and beat the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 11-6.
The team ended the season winning four out of their last six games, to improve their record to 16-19, which put them in 11th place in the MPSF. The team struggled to play on the road, having only one win out of 11 away matches.
Despite having a rough season, the Matadors will only benefit from the experience and improve next season, having all but two players returning.
Players Allison Brookes, led the team during the regular season in goals (61) and assists (39), Christine Cruz, who scored 60 goals and Freshman goalkeeper Jillian Stapf. Stapf has had a remarkable season, keeping the games close for the Matadors. Stapf started every game this season and had 313 saves, averaging 9.78 a game. With the leading scorer and solid goalkeeper coming back, the Matadors should increase their win total next season.
