The CSUN women’s volleyball team traveled to UC Irvine for their Big West Conference opener on Thursday night and were able to win the match 3-2.
After dropping the first two sets, the Matadors rallied back and forced a final fifth set.
With the fourth set under way the Anteaters led 8-5 before the Matadors were able to rally and turn the tide in their favor 19-15. The Anteaters tried to fight back, but the lead proved too much as CSUN tied UC Irvine at two sets all.
The Matadors kept the momentum going to open the final set wit a four point flurry. It looked as if the Anteaters were out of gas and were about to get routed when they fought back and later tied the set 13-13.
With the score all tied up, the Matadors were able to put the Anteaters away scoring the last two points of the match.
The Matadors were led by sophomore outside hitter Aeryn Owens who had a match-high 22 kills to lead the CSUN offense. junior setter Lauren Conati added 52 set assists and junior libero Katie Sato had 29 digs.
The Matadors look to add to their two game streak as they travel to UC Davis on Sept. 24. The match is set for 7:30 p.m.
